I think that's how it was explained to me. Like I said, I really don't know much about metalworking but how it was explained to me made sense. I don't know if the technology was there in the early 1800's to saw a thin piece of metal and forge the saw curf shut was there or not. If it was something concerning woodworking we were talking about, it would drive me nuts trying to figure it out and I'd have to try it myself, but in metals, my curiosity is easily satisfied. I'm happy to let the metal guys figure it out. ____Dave
It is interesting to read all the speculation on how the split spring was accomplished.
