66 Mustang in 73’ . Hand me down from an older sister . Totally rotted out floor boards , fenders flapping in the wind . Straight 6 , 3 speed on the floor . My dad and his buddy decided to “ help me “ change the oil at the service station we worked at . They set the lift on the rear springs and drove the shackles up through the floor of the trunk . I think dad wanted rid of that rust bucket . But I took a couple 2x4 ‘s and wedged them up in there and drove that thing till it couldn’t go no more . I loved that car !

My first car was a 1967 Mercury Cougar XR7. Green body, black top, lots of toggle switches and gauges. All leather interior. At one point I bought Wide Oval tires. Don't remember who made them. Maybe Pirelli. They gave a wonderful ride but wore out pretty fast.

1966 Volkswagen convertible. That was a reliable, economical car to drive. My second car was a 1965 Mustang fastback 2+2 Hypo 4 speed. It was a very fast car but not nearly as reliable.

1954 Chevrolet Belair. 235 6 cylinder. Drove it for a couple years then put it in my Dads Barn. Years later I sold it to an older couple who were in an antique car club in Maryland. They sent me a picture of it in the movie cry baby as the police car Johnny Depp was locked up in. Maybe I should have kept that car.

I learned to drive with my mom's 1968 Barracuda, 4 speed Hurst, 318 V-8, no air, power steering or disk brakes. My first car was a 1983 Monte Carlo, automatic, power steering and AC. My dad usually had Ford pickups with 3 on the tree. Then he bought a basic 1990 Toyota pickup and the rest is history . . .

When I was about 14 +/-, my dad gave me the old family car that had been sitting around for several years. It was a '48 Chevrolet 2 door sedan, turtle back it was called back then. I couldn't legally drive on the road so I was restricted to driving in the yard and pasture. This didn't last long, one of my buddies wanted the old car and he had a 30/06 that I wanted. End of story.

My first car is the newest one in this thread I think. It was a 1996 Chevy Blazer.

I hit a deer with it and it left a big hole punched out of the grill. Pretty recognizable from the front. I parked it at work one day, I was working at a restaurant across the street from Hooters. That day had a photo shoot for the next Hooters calendar in their parking lot. My Blazer could be seen in photos for 3 of the months. I forget why now, but after that, my friends called my blazer "Bobo".

I believe Firestone made the wide oval tires, I had a set on my 67 Riviera and another on my next car a 71 Pontiac Bonneville. They rode like a dream.

Technically, my first car was a Ford 1929 Model A. I inherited it from my grandfather after he passed away before I had a driver's license. I only had my learner's permit at the time, although I had already been driving for 6 or 7 years out in the country. I still have that car out in the barn, but it needs a bunch of work.

The first car that was "mine" was a 1966 Ford Galaxy 500. As I approached getting "legal", my father asked me what kind of car I wanted. I said "a pick-up truck". A week later, the 500 was sitting in the driveway when I got home from school. Why did I get a 500 instead of a truck?? My father owned a used car dealership in addition to having a farm, a feed store, chicken hatchery, and a couple of other businesses. Someone came in and traded in the 500 and "he got a good deal" in taking it in as a trade-in.

The first car I bought with my own money was a 1970 Ford Torino with a 351ci 4 barrel. That car could fly like a bat out of hell.

Some great memories in this thread! My 1st car was a 1933 Hudson coupe l paid $5 for. It was just the body & frame and l dragged it home in 2 pieces balanced atop a wheelbarrow! I was 15 at the time. Swapped some stripe work for a complete Ford front axle; got a 51 Merc rear end & 53 Olds engine and trans from a friends failed project. Got all installed and swapped it for a Model A Ford 2 door made into a phaeton and 3 motorcycles in pieces. Got one bike running; a 350 Royal Enfield and traded it for a 1950 Olds coupe. Had a lot of fun with that one!
Due to the fact of me getting caught driving without a license so many times(1st time l was 11), l had to sneak around mostly at night and leave the car at a friends house in a nearby town because all the cops knew me. Finally got my license when l was 23. Lots of good memories!

1970 Challenger (not a real R/T). 318 block w/ 340 heads, intake & holley carb. This was in 1985-86 & I got it when I was 16.

1962 Chevy Corvair. Bought it from the NCR service manager (I worked for him) when I got out of the Corps in 1966. Bought a brand new 1970 Olda 442 in October of 1969. Got into an accident with it a month later.

My first was a 62 Rambler Classic. Calling it a classic is a real stretch. Burned more oil than gasoline. I was fortunate in that my dad sold it while i was in the USN and didn't have to deal with.

My first was the '67 Le Mans in the photo. Yup, barracks of Wright-Patterson AFB in the background. The year was 1981. $500 from my supervisor. It was primer red at the time. Took out a loan from the Credit Union, painted it Corvette red lacquer and shoed it with the Crager SS mags. The vinyl was gone, so just painted the top black. Had to sell it when I got orders to Germany about 18 months later.

My favorite is the '67 GTO on the shelf. Never owned one. Maybe some day.

My first was a 1967 mustang...burnt auburn, black vinyl top, 289 2-barrel. It was mostly all there, but the passenger door had been damaged and replaced by another door, probably off a convertible.

My dad fronted me the $500 bucks to buy it. We were going to work on it together. I think I ended up doing most of it myself. As a teenager, we aren't always into doing things with our parents. I wish I had that time back, and would have done more with my dad. I think it was partly a dream car for him as well.

We got it running good, and "inspectable", but I still didn't have my license yet. One day in early winter, I drove it to school. On the way home, I slid into a telephone pole, did a good deal of front end damage. When I got home, my dad was already home and waiting for me. I was expecting yelling, a whooping, or all of the above, but he didn't do any of that. The silence was more damning than that other stuff. He knew the lesson I learned that day.

I worked on that car to get it back to working order..."new" hood, front end parts, radiator, etc. It was more of a jalopy now, but I got it fixed up again. Learned a lot about vehicles on that car. The frame eventually ended up starting to buckle in the back(rust), so I sold it to a buddy.

I loved that car, warts and all. I used to barrel around corners and the hub caps would go flying off into woods. I did 100MPH in that car on a back road(I never said I had common sense, LOL). I had the loudest, crappiest Kraco stereo and amplifier that a broke teenager could afford. I had 2 large paging loudspeakers in the back, certainly no Hi-fidelity sound, but it was LOUD.

I have a lot of good memories of that car...

$900 in 1965, ‘57 Vette. At the time it had a sick 283 the burned/leaked more oil than gas. 3 speed manual. Scrounged parts for 6 months and had 2 friends do a build and swap. They were dirt track racers so I ended up with basically the same setup they raced on 1/2 mile flat tracks.
265 block, bored to 301 cu in, high compression heads, fuely cam, big Carter 4 barrel, backed up to a T10 Borg Warner 4 speed. Fastest back roads Quarter Miler until I blew it up.
Local sanctioned track wouldn’t let a teenage girl race there.
Later hubby put another engine in it, he tried to climb a light pole at about 60mph. Totaled it. That was a good reason for him to become an ex-husband.
