Real close, almost fell a couple of times but I no longer drink near as much as I used to.

I just stopped wearing socks...

Probably make a good comedy movie, bad thing is it's only gonna get worse the older I get. I just do it sitting down because I'm lazy. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

This should be brought to the forefront because it's all too true. ('God I hate getting old, except for the still being alive part) I'll be 81 next month & can seldom remember my own name, much less yours.

I don't hate getting old, I just hate all the aches, pains and pills that comes with it.
Then you've got more doctor's appointments than you can keep track of. I guess it's
all better than the alternative. Excuse me while I go take my next pill....

I still work outside most days, but can’t take the heat or cold like I used to. Now when I take a break I realize I’m already wore out. Two years ago I got pneumonia, and had to go to the doctor. They called it walking pneumonia. After tests they said it was “environmental” caused, not germs or virus. Too much dust and debris. It (the pneumonia) was not a good experience! It never bothered me before but the doc says I’m too old to tolerate it.

Now I wear a full face dust mask - looks like a military gas mask - when I’m working in a dusty environment (which I probably should have been doing anyway). Other than that I’m as ornery as ever (so says my wife)! I have noticed I have several more doctors now though.

Ken, I too have to wear a full respirator when doing woodworking projects that make dust. When I go to these younger doctors now and they tell me my problems are age related, I get a finger right in their face and tell them I don't want to hear any of their crazy talk that I am getting old. They all laugh loudly about that and tell me that time is conspiring against me. I am having a hip replacement in 11 days. Hope I can walk again soon.

I'll be 79 in December. I see a doctor at the Veterans Administration, a woman doctor, she said I am in such good shape physically that I need to come in once a year instead of twice like many other patients my age. I take no medications, I walk three or four miles a day at a very nice pond near my house. I fish there occasionally. I eat one meal a day and for the most part I try to exclude carbohydrates from my meals. This eating regiment keeps my weight down dramatically and eliminates inflammation in my joints.Before this carnivore/egg diet I was size 38 waist; now I am at 34. It's nice to be small. I have essentially recovered from losing my sweetheart, Susan AND also from caring for her for 19 years. I don't know how I did it. I can truly say I am living the best years of my life these days.The Lord is so patient and so, so, gracious.

Let me share my experience with you concerning the hip replacement, It was a piece of cake compared to knee replacements that we both have experienced.
Back in 2014 I had my left knee replaced in order to fix my right hip. Knee in July and hip in mid December. There are really no bad recollections concerning the hip replacement, was able to climb the ladder to the shooting house by the end of January. Remembering, it took several days for me to kill a buck after the hip replacement. No outside therapy, just continued the exercises home health folks had me doing soon after surgery. Now 11 years later, I would be sure to go to a formal therapy because of my age, like last summer's knee replacement, the folks at the therapy center knew how far to stretch me several times a week.
You ought to be able to be up and about pretty soon!

A couple of times I have pulled up a screen to post on this thread. Each time I just could not figure out exactly what I wanted to say. I still can't, but here goes. I am 71 now. Aging has been rather kind to me, I suppose. Up until the beginning of this year I had never spent a night in the hospital. In January I had bypass surgery. Even then it went better for me than for some folks, I guess. I am able to do anything I want to do, unless it could be described as hard work.

But I do feel that I was given a peek into what the future could hold for me. I have known some folks whose life seemed to be an unending series of doctor visits; folks whose only topic of conversation was their health. I do not want to live like that. So long as a fairly normal life is possible, I want to live it. If a time comes where the only point of me being alive is to stay alive ...

Right now my life is books and beer, meals and maundering, birds and herbs, poetry and philosophy, and pocket knives. Even after seven years of retirement I am reveling in waking up every morning with the whole day to do just as I choose instead of going to work. So on the whole I cannot complain about my aging experience.

Getting older takes courage, wisdom and lots of thinking ahead to meet one's goals. As to the alternative...I'm looking forward to it.

Older than the hills but still funny and true.

I've been in the hospital a few times but mostly for minor stuff, most of my doctor visits are for routine checkups and such, I take a hand full pills daily but it's no problem. The doctors all say I'm going great for a 80 year old. Most of my talk about health things are just commiserating with buddies in the same boat.
I've been blessed way beyond measure.

I am recovering from inguinal hernia surgery on Thursday. They did the robotic laparoscopy out-patient surgery. Wasn't too bad. Two days in and I am getting around a little slowly, but getting around. Just a little sore - they said the soreness should be gone in 4 or 5 days. Not supposed to lift over 15 lbs for 3 weeks, then will be good to go. I told him as long as I am well before Dove Opener (Sept 1). Doc said that will be no problem.

That moment when you say those immortal words..."Back in my day" or "I remember when...." after making fun of people who said that when you were a lot younger.

I prefer to call it " the attainment of COOTHOOD ". My favorite is a poem by Michael O'Donoghue; the editor of the National Lampoon magazine and head writer for many years at Saturday Night Live. It is titled "LIFE".

I am trying to stop buying knives (have not had much luck) and start giving knives to friends.

A good buddy asked for a single blade schrade Barlow.
I have a couple with brown “leather” box and papers - drove a thousand miles this summer (FL to NY) and thought he would be pleased with the knife.

Gave him the box to discover it had all the paper work but I had forgotten the knife.

Felt mentally “old” for the first time and shipped the knife. I’ve been Physically old since my 40s when “the legs are the first to go” really hit me
