Buck of the month

Hoyt Buck produced the first Buck Knife in 1902. Hoyt and his son Al moved to San Diego and set up shop as H.H. Buck & Son in 1947. Al Buck revolutionized the knife industry in 1964 with the infamous Model 110 Folding Hunter. The company's innovative history and attention to quality have made for many great collectible knives.

I fully agree. Buck sells their BOTM knives exclusively through their web site and of course they can set the price at whatever they want. Unfortunatly, they have moved the price point on many of the offerings to above what this loyal, 54 year Buck owner and collector can pay.

When BOTM first started, I'd get the text message the knives were available, and go to their web store in well under an hour to find the knives sold out. I suspect, but can't confirm, that some folks were getting early notice of the offerings and buying up the knives. I suspect Buck got a lot of complaints, and eventually raised production numbers, implemented buy limits, and staggered issue dates, and based on a call with customer service, forbid tip offs. That at least put everyone on the same playing field.

I'm still a huge Buck fan and have many in my collection and carry rotation, and will still buy Buck when something intrigues me and is priced right. But my last few purchases have been knives from Anza, which is owned by Charlie and Channa Davis, Charlie having been a knifemaker at Buck for many years.
