Beautiful photos, Tom. It has been over a week since a new post, no one wants to follow the beauty of Oak Island!

We had some nice Lake Erie pics posted, here are some of Lake Michigan. That gives this thread the M and E of the 5 that make up HOMES, maybe others can fill it in.

Here are some snow pictures. Lake effect finally over. Things got so bad they declared a state of emergency. I plowed for the city for 41 years, it is great to be retired.

November 3 a couple of years ago, looking toward the Blue Ridge, which was rosy from the setting sun. About 2 miles from my home.

A few pics to break Winter's monotony, the Mississippi (I think near Hastings Mn), Galena, Il, and the classic old water tower of Harmony, Mn.

I live about 35 minutes from Antietam National Battlefield at Sharpsburg, MD. Been visiting there since I was a kid. Here's some pics I took in Antietam National Cemetery (ANC) in January 2015. Of the Civil War era burials, there are 4,776 Union soldiers interred here. The Confederate dead are buried elsewhere. There are also Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, and Korean War veterans buried there. There was no cemetery on this hill at the time of the battle. It was a Confederate artillery position, with scattered supporting infantry.

1) Grave of USS Cole casualty Patrick Roy. Roy was from Keedysville, MD, about five miles from Sharpsburg. The interesting point here is that at the time of Roy's death in 2000, the cemetery had been closed to new burials since the early 1950s and had been transferred from the Veterans Administration to the National Park Service (NPS). Much to the credit of the NPS, it issued a waiver permitting Roy's internment at ANC, providing ease of visitation and some degree of comfort to his mother who was still residing in Keedysville.
2) Pfc. Reno Emory Wyand, Co. E, 328th Infantry Regiment. Also a native of Keedysville, MD. He was killed-in-action in the Argonne on October 8, 1918, during the attack by the regiment's second battalion on German positions near Hill 223 along the Decauville rail-line. It was during this same action that Alvin York of the battalion's Company G performed the heroic acts for which he would become famous. Originally buried in France, Wyand's remains were repatriated to the United States in 1921 and re-interred at ANC.
3) Closest stone, Private Samuel Phillips, Company A, 118th Pennsylvania Infantry, killed 9/20/1862 at Shepherdstown, VA (now WV) when two Union divisions crossed the Potomac River in pursuit of the Confederate Army after the Battle of Antietam. He was one of 269 casualties out of the 737 men of the 118th that crossed the river that day. Private A.J. White, Company D, 53rd Pennsylvania Infantry (2nd stone from right), was killed at the Battle of Antietam, 9/17/62.
4) Stone with flag: Private Samuel Hull, Co. H, 116th Ohio Infantry. Enlisted December 26, 1863. Age 18. Died at Sandy Hook, MD, August 4, 1864, of chronic diarrhea. Info from the 116th's published regimental history.
5) Looking generally east into the Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Ohio Civil War sections. The short square stones in the foreground are unidentified burials.
6) The three closest rows are the West Virginia Civil War (Union Army) section.
7-8) These are post-Civil War burials
9) This is the view looking over the wall in the preceding pic at the location of a section of a Confederate artillery battery.

No, just happened to be passing by, and couldn't resist the look of the old barns and house, enhanced by the snow, sun, and blue sky. Thanks for the comment

Nice photos, BH, the Fall weather looks inviting. I was in that area a couple of years ago, and planned to visit, but never made it. Thanks for posting.

Thanks Ike those were from '19 , I was reminiscing the other day looking old photos I've taken in my travels I don't think I've posted them anywhere and thought this would a good thread.

Leaving Kure Beach…. Followed a container ship down the river…. A stowaway…. More river traffic….
