All About Pocket Knives

Have no idea about the age of this vice, it was always in my uncle's shop when I was a little shaver. Unkie passed in 1980, it has been on a bench in our shop 45 years.

That vise looks in good shape for the age. My work bench looked about like yours, but I cleared off one corner for my photo.

Yes sir, it probably is screaming for oil!
Since I've had it, it has held in its jaws several bush-hog blades over the years and countless lawnmower blades every season for the right-angle grinder to do its thing. A book could probably be written about all the strange things that has been held and worked or warped in this old vice's jaws!
Don't believe a feller can do much without a vice in his shop!

Since I've had it, it has held in its jaws several bush-hog blades over the years and countless lawnmower blades every season for the right-angle grinder to do its thing. A book could probably be written about all the strange things that has been held and worked or warped in this old vice's jaws!

Some of my old vises around the shop.

1. 6" Chinese vise my folks bought for me back in the late 80s. Has been my main vise all those years.

2. Temp-R-Ite vise - was my great-grandfather's. It was missing a jaw plate and the rotating base when I got it, so I made a jaw and found a base on e-bay.

3. Luther vise - also my great-grandfathers. This one dates to the early 1900s, I think.

4. A little Stanley 700 - a very handy little vise.

5. A 3 1/2" Craftsman that was left by the previous owner in my shop. I made a wood base for to clamp it in my wood vise.

6. My wood vise. I made the faceplate, and turned the handle from an Ash tree branch from my place.

7. A Chinese Pittsburgh vise that was mounted on this old metal bench a friend gave me. Don't use this one much.
