UK&R contracted with Union Cut Co for hunting knives, I don't know who made American pocket knives for them. Most UK&R fixed blades I have or have seen were made in either Germany or Czechoslovakia other than the ones made by Union Cut Co.

Agreed: I have a 4.25 inch toothpick/tickler made by Utica for UK&R and a 5 inch toothpick/tickler made by Imperial for UK&R. Not sure if pictures would be appropriate here at the Ulster ranch; But I'd be happy to post them elsewhere if anyone is interested. Thanks to all who posted here--great thread!

What can you tell me about this knife? Handle material? Age? It has the curved tang stamp if that helps. It belonged to my Grandpa and he passed in 1968 so I know it's at least that old. Appreciate the help.

Been a lot of years since I posted this one. Three back springs, pinched slanted bolsters, picked bone? , and a beautiful etch.

Mike, I wonder how many of those softball players lived through the war?

Nice one D. Didn’t some research say that etch is a hardware store?

A guy that I regularly do business with at the local gun shows and flea markets recently gave me this Utica jack because he said "it is busted junk", and thought I could use it for parts. The mark side bone handle material was split, the bail was mangled, and it does not have much snap on the master blade. I got it fixed up good enough for an EDC. When I got to looking at this one a couple of things dont add up. The knife is all steel, liners, bolsters, and pins. In other words a cheap knife. Why then would it have bone handles? I think at some point it has had some work done, been rehandled. The mark side handle material is a red color bone, and the pile side is a brown bone. Would this knife originally have had bone or some cheaper material like black composition?

Olde Cutler, could that knife be WWII vintage? I understand that brass & nickel were not available.
I don't know, just wondering.

That is a possibility that I had not considered.

Here is my latest Utica, it was gift from my buddy Barry, thanks. I have 3 Pocket Pards that have 14K filled hardware which is what I believed to be the only type Utica made. Well that was until Barry sent me this one. It is a 2 bladed knife and the hardware is Sterling not 14K filled. The bail is marked Sterling. I have searched for Utica's for years and of all the Pocket Pards I have seen all 4 items, a cutting blade, a nail file, a corkscrew and a screwdriver bottle openers combo. This one only has the cutting blade and the nail file. This is a rare one for sure. I have a couple of old Utica catalog's that show Pocket Pards but none show a 2 bladed Sterling model.

Thanks again Barry, Mike
