While on a business trip this past week I stopped by to visit and have dinner with an old hunting buddy. He is aware of my knife collecting ways and gave me this little Japanese made Explorer pen knife. He bought it several years ago at a local hardware store and put it away in a desk drawer. I know nothing about the brand, Gutmann Cutlery, Mt. Vernon NY, but it seems about equal to an old Colonial.

Neat little knife OH and good of your Bud to give it to ya. ::tu:: Seems to me, Explorer is one of those brands that's done alot of globe trotting over the years. I have one marked USA. I've also seen them marked Germany. ::shrug::

I agree, I have an Explorer that was made in Japan and its a pretty solid, well made knife.

It is AWFULLY hard for me to "find" anything! Can't afford the fuel to go look and can't afford to buy if I found anything.

I did get the lawnmower working and cut the worst of the yard today.

Stopped at a Pawn & Gun today to look at old shotguns but found a mint Case 5383 Balloon Whittler for sale. My second split spring whittler, first Case; I like the design, but I really liked the stag handles and Block shield, circa 1999.

Dang! We were just talking about the Case 83 in another thread. That's a beauty Colonel. I may have to get one of those.

Thank you gents, I appreciate the compliments. I feel pretty lucky, this knife was on my list to acquire (Case split-spring with the Block shield), been watching one at an antique/collectible store for the past few months but the price stayed too high - this one was half what the antique store fellow wanted. I think the stag on the back is nicer than the front, so I took a quick snapshot to show it off (got to pay attention to both sides when I am photographing my knives - I usually just take the shield side and forget about the back side).

That's a beauty OH.

Here's what came in the mail today, never sharpened, never carried that I can tell. I haven't decided whether to put an edge in it or put it in the trade pile. Problem is my boys are already claiming it for theirs, even the 2 year old!

In case you can't tell from my bad pics it's a Bulldog Brand Copperhead broken chain scales from about 2004 I believe.

Nice knives gents; unusual handles on the Bulldog Copperhead - colorful, but not gaudy. Tim, what pattern is your Kissing Crane - don't believe I've seen that one before.

I found this Camillus 1966 GI pocketknife today, took this picture when I got it home (didn't open all the blades for the picture due to the "breaking springs" issue I've read about here at AAPK). I sprayed it down good with G96 gun solvent/lube after I took the picture and let it soak while I was at my monthly VFW dinner meeting. When I got home the "gook" was dissolving and leaking out; I cleaned it good and have it working pretty smoothly now. Looked dirty and used, but not abused - owned one years ago and gave it away - I'll keep this one.

Thanks OH, that was the first time I'd seen that pattern too. I think I read here that it's called broken chain. Kind of interesting I thought.

I like that new case of yourn too.

This Case 6318 came in yesterdays mail; bought it off of e-Bay last weekend (sellers picture is from e-Bay too). Stainless steel, MFG in 1977, black bone with all nickel pins, liners, perfect condition. I thought it was stunning - a Case knife with the old "Buck look".

Man that's pretty, looks brand new. Is it going to get some pocket time in the rotation?
