Got this old Hammer Brand stockman in today...tang stamp is light but dates it from 1945--'55...love the bright red handles, puts this freshly picked tomater to shame! Blades are sharp as can be, solid snap and no wobble....lovin' it!

Thanks Johnnie, after cleaning 'er up a bit, she went right in the front pocket! Going to carry it again tomorrow at work, those Hammers really hold up well over the years, always been impressed with their quality.

Here is today's AAPK (Ain't About Pocket Knives) find. A Case skinning knife at a local gunshop - looked like an enhanced version of an old Schrade Sharpfinger - we'll see come hunting season.

Gino,
those knives are a great find......and a great price.

And speaking of Gino and knives, I bought this very sanitary 3" Robeson from him.

Thanks Gino, for a great little jack knife.

I haven't visited this thread in a while; There are some fine knives here.

Thanks, Dave and Mike.

Yes, Mike, that knife will see some pocket time.
It is currently unsharpened, unused, but I will bring it rightly into the fold along with 97% of my other knives by giving it my own edge and at some point taking advantage of the small option that it is.

It's a very solid little knife and as Dave points out, has that secondary out in front in a efficient design as one would expect from the great Robeson brand. Thanks.

I picked up this Robeson Shuredge USA fish knife today out yard sale'n. Both blades are tight with good snap. I dig it.

Any ideas on age?
Should it have a bail? There's a hole on one side of the rear bolster but not on the other so I am a bit confused on wether or not the bail is missing ::shrug::

Great lookin' knife there Jerry!
Cutty that Robeson is a real looker! That handle looks like the Robeson "Shurwood", very nice.
I have a small Robeson Shuredge jack with the same handles and stamp that I was informed dated from between 1959-1965. Here is how the "shurwood" was described to me..."a compressed composite material made of multiple layers of wood, perhaps rosewood, and a phenolic resin"

As far as the hole in the side of the bolster...I'm just guessing here...but might it somehow be utilized as part of it's function as a fishing knife?... a hook tip holder or rest of some sort? ...just brainstorming

Great fish knife Cutty! Does it have a number on it? I think it should be 222407? Some Robeson toothpick/fish knives came with bails and some not. The two I bought from Charlie awhile back were from the 60's and they didn't have bails. Not sure about yours, but i'd think without the hole on both sides, it likely wouldn't have had one.
