Back when they were still in Milwaukee, or are you talking about farther back in the Braves Boston days?

First we'll use Spahn
then we'll use Sain
Then an off day
followed by rain
Back will come Spahn
followed by Sain
And followed
we hope
by two days of rain.

even though the Mariners beat the Braves, I enjoyed watching Dominic Leone pitch again. I haven't seen him since he left Clemson. He wasn't NEARLY this good when he was pitching for the Tigers!

Rondon tried to give it away in the nineth but thanks to Rizzo, the Cubs managed to hang on and take it in the 13th, 5-3. Hey combine the sweep of the Mets with the win over the Fish tonight makes it four in a row, both firsts for this season.

Here's a neat story on a Class-A team shutout record. Lynchburg Hillcats pitchers combined to pitch two consecutive shutout games!

Did the Cubs get a touchdown and three field goals, or two touchdowns and a safety?

::dang:: Jerry... After getting beat by the Padres 3 straight and the Brewers 1-0 the Cubbies pitchers have a real good chance to improve their E.R.A.'s. ftd

I wouldn't be too concerned Ferg. The Nationals slaughtered the Cubs yesterday 13-0. You may have heard, the Cubs just traded off two of their top pitchers, Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel.

"Cubs pitcher Carlos Villanueva lasted just two innings Saturday against the Nationals.

Villanueva lasted 58 pitches during the appearance. He gave up four runs on five hits. Villanueva struck out two and walked one."

CBS Sports quote.

After this five game series, we'll know more about it come Thursday night but so far the Cubs are 3-5 against the Reds. Not a stellar record.

Ferg, I don't want to hear any more of your whining. Cubs blew a 5=0 lead and just lost their 5th game in a row. Two to the Nationals and the first three out of five to Cincinnati.

Jerry, the Red's announcers said that the Cubs were rebuilding for future years, but how can they be a winning team by trading all of their good players away! I think that they need new management. Not much hope today for them either, Alfredo Simon is on the mound 11-3 2.0 era. ftd

Cubs are trotting out Dallas Beeler for tonight's game. The 25 year old had his major league debut a week ago this past Saturday against the Nationals and allowed just one unearned run on four hits in six-innings but lost because he didn't get any run support. That's been the name of the game this year (with a few exceptions). The pitching is fine but there's no run support OR the starting pitching is fine but the bull pen gives the game away in the late innings.

As far as the trade, they're going nowhere this year so I guess the quality of the players they got for Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel makes sense in a "looking to the future" kind of way. Or at least that's what all the talking heads are saying. Samardzija was only here for one more year max anyway. He's 29 years old, very competitive and wants a chance to win a World Series NOW, not three or four years from now when his arm is falling off.

We'll know more about tonight's game about 10:00 PM CDT.
