Topdog, I thought I had commented on your Anza, but must have missed it. I been running around like a dog chasing his tail this year with work.

I really likes that Anza ... great size, and like Mark said "a workhorse". That would definitely be a woods knife for me ... camping or just in case a bear shows up while hunting. I live on a TN bear reserve, and see them often when deer hunting. May have to get me one of those Anzas. Great looking blade!! Many

I finally got to posting this big ole' pig-sticker that I've had for a bit yesterday, and when I was done I hit the wrong button and lost the entire long post, so, being tired and P.O.'d by that point I quit and waited for today.
This slip-joint knife is unmarked with zero traces of the maker, model, stamps or anything and it was expensive.

It has a 5 1/2" SS mirror polished spearpoint blade with just a hint of a clip or drop toward the tip, along with a N/N and about 75% filework on the top false edge. The handle is 6 1/4" giving the knife a full length of 11 3/4".

The handle is comprised of buffalo horn covers with fluted mammoth ivory inserts, NS decorative escutcheons, SS bolsters and liners, fully fileworked spine, all held together with brass pins. There's a false tab-lock at the end of the spine giving it a picklock appearance.

It has my kindda weight coming in at a hefty 6 oz.'s and arrived with just the bottom edge perfectly sharpened.
Walks open smoothly at about 6 and closes equally smoothly with a solid half-stop and resounding snap.
I received this knife gently used by someone who loved and cared for it, which can be confirmed by a fit and finish that looks new.
Why, whoever made this beautiful knife wouldn't mark it with some sort of identifying markings that advertises it's their work baffles me!

I saw the tab-lock in the picture and got interested, thinking it was a Spanish knife (navaja... in fact if TMK moved down south to Mexico or other parts of Latin America or to Spain, he could change his AAPK name to "Demasiadas Navajas") So I wonder why one would put a false one on there? ... My thinking was Spain or Italy as to the origin, or at least in the influence of the design of this beauty... ... However, as you can see no mark on the knife, that remains a mystery

... I will say that I have bought handmade knives, folders and fixed from Spain, Mexico, Turkey, Thailand and a few other places while I was in those countries and most of the time there was not a maker's mark.

I picked up some pieces from Spain, Turkey and Mexico and they seem to really like using horn as a handle material, maybe because there are lots of goats (and cows) grazing all over the countryside and it is not so expensive a material to use. As a handle material, I really like horn, but I have had problems with moths getting in my house and if the knife is not properly protected their larva will attack the horn

The little old Chinese ladies use that term a lot when they'd win at the Blackjack tables, Kerry, I heard it so often when I was dealing in the casinos that I'd fall asleep at night repeating it in my head, that and "Hai-ja". I'd join in with them when it was "Hai-ja" they yelled, then one night I overheard one say to another, "He don't even know what mean", but I didn't care cuz when you root for the player's you get better tips. "Chicken dinner" was used more around the roulette and baccarat tables, but I didn't deal them as often. Thanks for the compliment, buddy.


Much thanks, Tony, the shape of that blade had me leaning toward Spanish too, but now that you mention it Italian also fits. It's strictly a conversation piece, but since that's what I'm mostly looking for it works for me. It's like holding a short spear when it's open.


Many thanks to you also, Dog, and since the false tab-lock serves no purpose I can only assume it's for decorative reasons. I too am really baffled about no markings, but from what you say about seeing similar overseas that might explain it. The horn was described as buffalo, but I don't know if that helps determine which country it came from. So far I've been lucky regarding bug bites and/or larva, I hope it stays that way. It sure feels good to be posting back in the ole' CKT!

Marco, some of the Laguiole French made knives have that false "lock-release" on the back .... could it be French or French "inspired" ?

CxIII, one great thing about the Anzas, are they are made with a good steel for outdoor use. And for me, always a comfortable feel with handle and they are made in the USA!!!

Mark, I waited until I took a pic of this knife to comment on your knife after you mentioned "Bee". The knife pictured is unmarked also ... picked it up at an estate sale. Looks like a butter knife with a full tang, and it is heavy. Also has what appears to be a false lock (the Bee). Would have been nice to see this entire set, but this was all they had left. I believe French is the right direction. Perhaps our member that sells the French knives could give some info. I do not recall his Username at the moment. Your' knife is a beauty Mark!

Yep, that's the "Bee", Tony, and one usually sees them on the Laguiole knives. The "Bee" is quite famous and popular, so much so that they make it in many variations.
That members handle is "Knives of France", and that's a great idea, thanks.

M&M & CxIII, I have a similar knife with the "Bee" I just don't know where in tarnation it is stashed for me to take a picture to post here on the CKT. I think the KoF guy is a good resource.... good thinking on the CKT once again!

Now for my CK of the day (CKD, or CKOTD): This a R.R. and I love it, carry it and use it.... It has real bone scales.... how it can be made and sold so cheap... .... I only wish it could be made in Tawain (or Japan) if it can't be made in the USA for a lower price that most people will pay. Being made in Japan might not guarantee a low price anyway....

Thanks M&M As I recall that model/design ZT comes in two sizes, a large and a small so to speak... I believe that it has almost a 4-inch blade, and... well let me do a 'lill fly by the seat of the shorts research as I type... ......
