All About Pocket Knives

My brother in-law handed me this old '30-'36 Imperial after thanksgiving dinner. Said it was his grandfathers and that I could have it . He's not a knife guy and had no idea how old it is. I decided to clean it up a bit and give it back to him to pass along to his son. It is still in perfect working order and I think my nephew would appreciate it in the future.

Beauty knife in what looks to be good condition Cutty. Let's pray that Christmas Tree doesn't take a notion to gas on him after all these years. (Sorry for the negativity. It's just that damn celluloid. I don't trust it as far as I can throw it. AAPK made me that way.)

I hear you Jerry. That was my first concern as well My fear came from here also and has scared me from buying a few that I really liked. I will explain that to my brother and nephew when I give it back so it can be properly stored (far away from my knives ).

Yeah...this forum scared the crap out of me also...so bad that I sold or traded 95% of my cell handled knives.
After talking to some Fellas out here in Tucson who also collect knives ... said they had never seen a cell scaled knife "gas out" ....must be the "dry heat"..
Humidity does seem to play a big roll in the gassing out of scales.

What ever causes it, I got rid of all that I had (I think. I have some I hope are acrylic.)

Dagnabit! I went into Target (Where maybe not THIS Target, but at SOME Target I got my Alox Cadet) thinking to and with enough mad money to purchase an Alox Classic.

There wern't any Alox nor even any hang tangs for Alox in this Target!

Kinda ticks me off.

I just picked up this old Robeson Mastercraft 628552 and I am going to ad it to my EDC rotation
The handles are incredible and I really dig the filed liners, its a early one also having patent numbers on the tang
After all I am a huge Robeson fan ::super happy::

I picked this up last week-end at a flea market...wasn't sure about it, but it intrigued me. It's somewhat similar to the knife a few posts up? Schrade, Walden NY

Found an antique store that was just hard to believe. Asked one of the ladies, "Do you have any old pocket knives?" She said "Lots of them." Spent an hour and a half and didn't see all the stuff, there were 2 stories of antiques. Here are 2 that went home with me. The Camillus hasn't been sharpened and the Imperial is of much better quality than any Imperial I had ever seen. Something strange was used to clean the Imperial DE as it left some strange tracks on the blades. The Imperial has DE with an arrow through it on the shield. Is it considered a "bare head trapper"? Both knives has great walk and talk.
