All About Pocket Knives

That is interesting MRB. Looks like your handles are off a much bigger knife than the one I posted and one that had a lot more blades and/or tools.

I had seen that knife in OLD Boker catalogs and hardware ads but it took me a long time to actually find one. I got lucky on ebay one night.

Here is a knife with pot metal handles.

This is a little EKA Sweden lobster. I have no idea how old it is - there still making knives with
the same theme today.
It has the Swedish Royal Crest on the front and a Celtic weave serpent on the back.
The inlays appear to be silver set in black enamel.

Joe: I wish I knew.There is no maker's stamp.The sides are one piece pierced;engraved,and fileworked.The bolsters are actually thin pieces of low grade gold affixed to the frame(probably by soldering)and there is a screw for a pivot on each end.The blades are exceptionally well ground and the pen blade is one of the thinnest I have ever seen.I believe it is very old but just how old I cannot be sure.
I got it years ago in trade from a friend of mine who picked it up at a flea market.

Here are a couple old aluminum handle knives.
Both are the same except for the stamps.

One is marked New york Knife Co.
And the other has the Hammer Brand stamp!
Kinda strange, huh!

Got one marked Schrade around here also.
Wonder how many years these knives were made?

They were made for atleast 30 years from what I have seen

An update on my Buck 721s, 722s and a 726 Mini-Spitfire I picked up recently.
Also an update on my Kershaw Leeks and Kershaw Two Cans (anyone know where I can get a blue one?)

Here is one i picked up today:made in Germany and the only other mark is a large English Text R stamped into the tang.Sterling silver fancy scales.

I really like the German Sterling knives, here`s a Sterling silver Schrade of mine with a file blade that still has ink .....automatic of course. off to the switchblade forum to post it

All metal knives are some of my favorites. Just got this little Boker auto. Slide the tab and the blades flies open.

Pretty cool , haven't seen one like that.

That is a new one on me Mike;thanks for posting it. Here are a couple I picked up today:a Needham Brothers ad knife for Hope's Windows and a Thomas Turner ad knife for grate polish(?);whatever that is.

I have a few all-metal folders, but here are my latest finds. A 1960's-70's Hermes Schlumberger corkscrew knife that I found at a local thrift store, and a Kamp-King I found at the local swap meet this past Sunday, (missing the bail, but oh well). Maybe not as ornate as some of the other knives pictured on the thread, but cool finds nonetheless.

Nice ones baykeeper! The first one is not a name I'm familiar with but a nice one. The Kamp King is a bit unusual;most of those have smooth sides rather than the simulated stag/jigged bone. Does it look like it ever had a thin cel covering over the sides? I know they did make boy's knives like that but haven't seen a scout/utility bare.

Thanks, I don't see any signs of anything that ever covered the handle, and I've seen similar knives on feebay that looked identical. I just thought it looked cool, and other than the missing bail it is in reasonably decent condition. The other knife was designed at Tiffany's by one of their designers, (Schlumberger), and made by Hermes in Paris. It is the kind of item you would find at a jewelery store on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, a real "luxury" item, worth much more than I paid for it, ($1.50 at a local thrift store). Also found an old Camillus this week, so it's been a good week for pickin' knives!

I have a couple of knives with scales like that(coffin handled for want of a better term) that are of French origin. They usually have a can opener;screwdriver;pen,and spear point master blade. The quality ranges from so-so to fabulous. My best one is a bone handled model by Eloi Pernet that is just a jewel of a knife.High polish everywhere including the inside of the knife. One was just listed on e-Bay for a BIN price of $450.00! Nice but not that nice!

Very nice collection! Coffin handled sounds like a good description to me, it pretty much describes what they indeed look like. The word "Schlumberger" on mine is what makes it collectible, and rare. That he was a designer for Tiffany's is what makes it "special". The same Hermes corkscrew knife without that name on it would be worth maybe $20-$30, but since mine has the name the price goes up, a LOT! There is a BIN at $459 on feebay right now for the same knife, (though I can't imagine it will ever sell at that price). The most recent ones listed in "sold listings" sold for between $130-$200. I also found a couple on antique sites asking over $500 and more. Having spent a buck fiddy, if I ever decided to sell it at $130 or so I could make close to, or more than 1000% profit. A little knowledge goes a long way, (knowledge IS power!), especially when a seller simply doesn't know what they are selling, and with pocket knives that's a real possibility. That's where a little knowledge and good instincts for what "might" be collectible benefit those of us that have a good eye in a collecting field not well known to most. In other words, there are still treasures out there to be found, you just have to be willing to go look for them. That's the only reason I found a couple of real treasures this past week, (I also found a New York Knife Co pre-1931 Hammer Brand bone handled pen knife this week). If I hadn't looked I would never have found.
