What Schrade RARE knife do you have

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

This was a nice little surprise - a completed ACB72 ::ds::

Until I spotted this knife I had it stuck in my head that there weren't any finished ones out there. The 72 and 25 ACBs were slated for release a few months after they closed down while the 80 and 296 were scheduled earlier in the year - April '04. I bought this knife from a former salesman and it is #006. There's potentially at least 5 more hiding out there somewhere. Now if I could only find a completed ACB25...

I have a 500T the same stamp as yours 50T mine has bone handles.Yours looks to have synthetic handles. If the handles have what looks like gold in the material. It is a material they used between bone to delrin.I have a Schrade Walden 80T with the same handles.

It is the sparkly plastic you're thinking of. Something I've noticed about that 50OT - aside from being obscenely rare, the only ones I have ever seen are this brown plastic or bone. The pattern was in the catalogs into the Delrin years but I wouldn't be surprised if they actually stopped making them in '61 or early '62. You would think it would be far more common to spot a Delrin example over these rare birds if they had made any of them.

I collect the knives in this material too. I've got this 50OT, a couple of 58OTs, a primble 934 (same as 58OT) and one of those 8OTs. I'm glad to hear that you have one of those too - now I'm aware of two 8OTs in that material. I found a bone 58 with a big chunk missing so I sent it to Herman Williams and had the knife rehandled in sawcut bone. I also happen to have another 50OT in the brown plastic but the mark side cover has a big split in it. That one will also get a makeover and come back in the same sawcut bone as the 58. I'll be posting some group pics when that other 50 is done.

Regarding the sparkly 8OT you are mentioning, are either of yours purchased from me? If not, I had one also, which I sold, and that would make 3.

Cal I'm the one who bought that 8OT from you a couple of years ago.

Grant those are some very cool 58s. Oddly enough, I just bought a Trustworthy 58 a few weeks ago and until I saw that one I didn't even know they existed. SO we're up to 2 8OTs and 2 Trustworthys! LOL I have recently seen an Imperial 58OT with a Prince Albert tin that had an option for a $1 Imperial or $2 Ulster. Same exact knife except for the tang stamp - and I imagine nowadays an Imperial Old Timer would go for quite a bit more than a run of the mill Ulster. That Robeson is a head scratcher. I wonder what the story behind that one is. Do you think it's just a weird thing that snuck out of the sample room?

Here are another couple variations, the Primble (in that same plastic) and a Keen Kutter

I think the Robeson was a sample lot they made for Robeson.Never went on sale.
I purchased mine from Sanders Knives they had about ten for sale some had clear tang stamps and other were doubled stamped.
They sold reasonable cheap as no one want to purchase them because they thought they were counterfeit.I purchased two and pull one apart to see if they had the swindon system. They did and the only place knives where made at that time with swindon system was in the Schrade Factory.

Enjoyed looking at all the knife history photos and reading your accounts of the what was distinctive for each one. Sort of gives the purpose of why we are collectors. I do have a couple of knives that hasn't appeared in the parade yet. I have a 250, seems it was made only on 1953 to 55.

I agree with you - these ACBs are among my favorite Schrades regardless of age. I have another set of blue bones that look like unfinished ACBs but they're not. They were made 3 years ago as tribute knives to the original set.

I have this 2 blade Schrade Walden double switchblade pen knife. An interesting switchblade to me. It has a patent dates of Feb. 3 '06 and Feb. 26 '07. I don't know much about these and this is the only one I have ever seen in person with two blades. I know they were made at least into the 40's and 50's.

The main blade won't close all the way and opens but not all the way under the springs power. The smaller blade will open and lock in place when pushing the button, but sometimes it won't open all the way. I would like to know if it would be possible to have this fixed W/O hurting the vale/original condition. I am also curious as to the vale of the knife. If anyone has any insights I would be grateful. Thanks!

Awesome knife GSPTOPDOG! As far as the blade not closing all the way and the weak spring; my experience in dealing with that design, is that there is dirt+pocket lint that is behind the spring, in the notch cut in the blade and around under the button mechanism itself. You could possibly get a cheap assorted pack of dental picks and some compressed air to try to remove the material. What ever you do don’t force it.

Here is a link that shows what the inside looks like
