Comfort Knives!

I'm running out of knives to post, and when I went back over the posts to see which one's I already posted, I see I have posted the same knives twice a couple of times, so my apologies for that! This one today will undoubtedly ruffle a few feathers due to it being a total counterfeit of a Benchmade 417 Fact, but seeing as I can't afford what Benchmade wants for it, I had to go with this one. It appears to be identical to the original, but with a few subtle differences, such as weight and cover materials. It's 8 5/8" oal which is a touch shorter than the original, S30V steel spear-point blade with dual-studs and 10% jimping above the studs, SS liners, through construction, axis-lock, black GRN(glass reinforced nylon)covers and the original has anodized aluminum covers, blue anodized spacer, and a pocket-clip. Slightly lighter than the Benchmade model at 2.7 oz.'s, but equally sharp. Has an etch of the blade steel on the back tang, and, unfortunately, an exact etch of the Benchmade logo on the front blade. Prices for this knife range from US$182.-$212. for an original, and this one only ran me CDN$30. delivered. I can't say that I agree with blatant copyright violations, but for the difference in price I overlooked that uncomfortable fact. They could have easily built the same knife without the logo, and that way it would only be a copy or clone!

I think it is very good looking. Feels good too. A friend & I swap a roll of knives from time to time so we can check out different knives. I'm sure he'd notice if I didn't return this one & I wouldn't do him that way anyway. I can play with this one whenever I want. He might not get it back quickly though.

You both get the best of both worlds, you can handle and admire each others knives and not have to buy them, or, do trades from time to time for one's you find special. Wish I had friends like that! This beautiful lockback knife has kindda got lost in the shuffle between receiving and posting my knives, and it's sooooo comfortable in-hand that it' my knife for today! It's a J.A. Henckels 8" oal folder/SS drop-point blade minus n/n due to the blade being so wide it's very easy to pinch open, NS bolsters, SS liners, invisible pins, and dark wood covers. I'm guessing it weighs about 5 oz.'s, and came extremely sharp. Front blade is covered in Henckels markings. Fit and finish, and walk and talk are all superb. When I grip this knife, the contours of the body blend right into the contours of my hand, making it feel like an extension of my hand. A masterpiece of a knife from Henckels!

I turned it into a single blade easy opener, and threw on bone handles. It's not the best knife I've ever done, or the prettiest, but for some reason I love the dang thing. And it stays razor sharp too, gotta love that older high carbon steel ! It's either in my left pocket (tactical de jour in the right) or it's on my computer desk. I don't know,... the dang thing just makes me happy !

Glad you're enjoying the thread Geo, and, that I didn't offend you! As I was telling Toejammer, I'm running out of knives to post, so I hope you'll continue on posting yours, since I for one never get tired of seeing even the same knives over and over. Seems I can spot something new on a knife that I'm examining for a 2nd time that I didn't notice when I first looked at it. Anything at all will do, folders, fixies, or anything that makes you feel good when it's around. And be sure to hang-on tight to your buddy, genuinely good friends are few and far between, a fact I'm sure you're already aware of!

Gett'n back to my roots today with this Benchmark manual humpback stiletto that's 10 3/4" oal/SS dagger blade with n/n and fullers on both sides, SS bolsters, brass liners, and dark wood covers secured with screws not pins. Has a respectable weight of about 4 oz.'s, and arrived with only the bottom edge incredibly sharp. There are Benchmark markings and model number stamped on both tangs. Lots of fun and comfort derived from this knife, until I was able to acquire the real thing, but I still really like it to this day!

Afternoon Mark, and crew here at Comfort City ! Don’t get over here much so thought would make a stop and say hello. Read up on most all the posts here since last visit. You all been busy, and showing serious Cutlery. Hope you all are well .
Need comforting today ,it is sub zero and going lower and blowing pretty good. So hunkered down and got comfy with this little GEC made for Badger knife club in2014 . Have never really used it but it sits handy around the house . It’s tight,snappy,loud, never been sharpened and still very sharp. It’s 4 3/8 closed ,single blade,feels good in hand. The lock is very smooth, and being a bone guy ,I like the handles,,they’re well matched. So. That’s my story this go around. Last time I posted here showed a EO ,,that and a 72 are right up there for EDC/ Comfort .
That last modified EO is sweet ,nice save on that one .

Hey J.P.! Good to see you posting here again. I'm gett'n kindda low on knives to post, so hope you guys will take up the slack with some of yours. The one you showed us today is absolutely gorgeous! Although I don't currently own any like it, I have a beautiful Beavertail with cherry wood covers on hold that I will eventually acquire. The bone on yours J.P. is just stunning, not to mention the 2 shields, congrats on owning that one! I'll do my best to stay warm, and you being so close to me will need to do the same, some really miserable cold air dropping on us all. Hope you're staying safe!

Good look'n S+W you have there Nick! I'm a long time fan of that style knife, simple yet very effective. Reminds me of certain Moki and Gerber models. I think you've been stringing us along about not being a serious knife enthusiast Nick, anyone who carries a knife in their back pocket over a period of time is definitely one of us! LOL! Hello Mark, the Maverick was one of only a few designs that Smith built themselves here in the states back in the 80"s. I may be wrong but that is my understanding. Until recently I just dropped a Case slimline trapper in my pocket every day since I bought it in 2007 but with my new obsession it is a debate in my head each day which knife to carry. Not a terrible problem to have I guess. Looking at this thread you have a wide range of amazing knives.
Today it is a Colonial blonde Anvil jack and an Old Timer 34OT with no tang stamp (factory second?)

Two real beauties Nick! If deciding which knife to carry that day is the worst it gets, then we're definitely all in good shape! I may currently have more models than you, but your knowledge of cutlery far outweighs mine. Knowing things like "Anvil jack" and "34OT" are still only terms to me, yet you already know exactly what they mean. It would seem that you're far more involved in this hobby than you actually realize, and there's absolutely NOTHING wrong in that! Thanks for showing what you have, and please keep em' com'n!

Nick, that is a nice pair of EDCs . Have several Anvils ,but never a blonde one. There’s a joke there somewhere but will leave it be. All kidding aside, they’re a decent knife, at a great price range.

Beautiful knife TMK! I posted my Henkels with the same shape as your Boker a couple of days ago, and I never get tired of handling it cuz it seems to slide right into my hand and fits in there like a glove. The contour of the body feels like the knife was custom made to fit my hand. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about, since yours is so close in appearance. I think the wood handles on yours are much prettier than the dark wood used on my Henkels. Also, don't ya just love the fact there is no nail-nic, since the blade is so wide it makes for an easy pinch opening. Can't go wrong with a Boker, that's for sure!

Hello Ripster thanks. I've started my collecting out just buying inexpensive knives mostly Colonials thanks to the posts by Bonfire Bob in the Colonial forum. I really wish he was still with us. Some folks have indicated that they have done the same when they started out and now wish they had bought better knives from the beginning. I have some new and unused but most are like this old anvil old and beat up but I like them. I don't know that I will ever have as nice of knives as what you guys show here but it's cool to see them everyday.

I have some new and unused but most are like this old anvil old and beat up but I like them. Wow Nick , sounds like many of us, some new ,some used ,some broken. As the years have gone by ,things have changed,as always, and my focus changed. The boys are on there own , house is paid for , and retired, so my finances have changed ,along with knowledge and desire. My fist knife was a old Sabre ,cost a buck,the most recent cost a lot more bucks. As time goes on the hardest thing for me is to stay focused, I don’t need every knife. So my Camillus group grows slowly,with standards in mind .
Yet have my EDC one that bring great pleasure. You are doing what I consider the right thing, ask Questions,get involved,make mistakes or solve a situation regarding a knife. It’s good to see you getting around the forum, it’s what you make it,and for many of us it’s a big part of our daily life’s.
Hers a pic of that Sabre from years ago, and a short line 72 Camillus that bought last fall. A 25 year difference,sill like the same style, just better shape and quality
