The Marlins and Phillies completed their season-opening series in Philadelphia yesterday. Until a few minutes ago I had not heard that 14 members of the Marlins tested positive for coronavirus. Also had not heard for that reason the Marlins subsequently postponed their home opener game tonight.

So how did I hear about all that? Why, only when the damnYankees cancelled their scheduled game tonight In Philadelphia, citing concerns the visitors clubhouse was contaminated by the Marlins who vacated it Sunday. What did the headline say? “Yankees cancel games!” Only after that are you told the whole story.

I don’t doubt the sincerity or legitimacy of the concern. Just ticks me off that only when it affects the damnYakees does it become newsworthy in the mainstream (New York centric) press!

I too agree with what you have stated, Ken. There were a few players that knelt during the National Anthem..I am aware of three, but don't know who they were...just what I saw. And the media...once again, they twist the narrative and lie about what actually occurred. It's never ending with msm...anything to get the clicks and to continue to perpetuate the division of Americans. I don't much believe anything they say anymore...even FoxNews. They've turned around and kowtowed down to a lot lately.

edge213's list of reasons not to care really hit when seen in a list. Makes this season and the attempt to play as pretty desperate.

As I understand it the games have been “postponed”. No forfeit. I suspect we will see more of this. I’ll won’t be surprised if the season, such as it is, isn’t cancelled before all is said and done.

I was pleased to see ALL Nats and Yankees players standing for the National Anthem Thursday night. Had they not, I'd probably have turned the game off.

My observation (what I witnessed with my own eyes and ears) is the black banner (what I saw was a ribbon) was used prior to the singing of the National Anthem, not during it. Typically, it was misrepresented in media reporting.

After watching with my own eyes what took place on the field at several games, afterward I watched and listened to the mainstream news media flat out lie about it, implying the players knelt during the Anthem. Maybe some did - Matt Kemp from the Colorado Rockies did - I saw it - but all other players from both the Rockies and Texas Rangers stood respectfully at attention during the Anthem. There were probably other Anthem kneelers at games I did not see. However the media reports I saw showed all players kneeling and holding the black ribbon, while misleadingly implying that it took place during the Anthem.

Unfortunately, Ken, that's how the media works. They're in business to make money on sensationalized stories, not necessarily the truth. But this has always been the case, even in our Revolutionary period.

You’re right, it’s always been that way but unfortunately too many believe the tripe the media puts out. I truly believe it’s the worst it’s ever been though.

I just finished reading the novel Silver City written by Jeff Guinn, himself a veteran newspaper man (Fort Worth Star Telegram). In the book the fictional protagonist Cash McClendon, having narrowly survived a harrowing experience detailed in the novel, is approached by a newspaper reporter asking for an interview.

McClendon declines to be interviewed, whereupon the reporter says “then it’s the privilege of the press to speculate” about what happened.

McClendon gives the reporter a threatening glare and says “Don’t do it”.

The reporter replies “The people have a right to know.”

“Not in this case.” McClendon says. “You don’t write about it, now or ever. Do we understand each other?”

Putting up his notepad and pencil, the reporter huffily says “Men like you will be the death of the free press.”

To which McClendon replies “Or men like you will be.”

And that pretty well sums it up. Men like that reporter have killed the public’s trust in “the free press”.

Oh well, sorry for the diversion. Back to baseball!

There is no way it could ever be a ground rule double, as the ball would have had to touch the field and bounce over the fence, which it did not do. 4 base error has not happened in several years.

Cubs took 3 out of 5 from the Cardinals. Now the third place White Sox make the trip north to do battle for three games.

Cardinals took both games of that double-header yesterday. Cubs pitchers couldn't pitch (I didn't recognize most of them) and the batters couldn't bat. They might as well have took the day off, handed both games to St. Louis and said Merry Christmas early. It was pathetic. Let's hope they do better these next two games.
