All About Pocket Knives

A few flea market finds from last week-end...Kutmaster Barlow that definitely needs cleaning, and an old KABAR with the blackest blades in my collection.

You cant beat that old black steel,it is like it gits better with age.Wish I could say the same for me LOL.

...thanks knifetime...every day I learn a little more. At first I didn't know what to think of this steel, I even asked my dad who was a machinist and he wasn't familiar with this steel. Is it steel with a very high carbon content?

Came acoss these three today a Gerber USA lockback,aSchrade/Walden NY/USA and a Case Jeff Gordon 1994 BRICKYARD 400 blister pack.

OK, I am a little slow, but I at least know that much..... Anyway, could someone please tell me why this thread is in "knife related questions?" I don't get it. There are 4 threads (this one, which I don't understand at all, and also one for favorite EDC, one for photography, and mail call). They are all basically "show us your knife." I am not trying to be a wise guy; I just don't get it.

The way I figure it is...

Knife Finds of the Day---is for if you found an odd or unique knife while cruising a flea market, store, your own attic etc

Favorite EDC---is for your current favorite knife you are actively carrying on that day

Knife Photography---is for extra cool pics of a favorite knife, emphasis on the photographic merit

Mail Call---would be for if you just returned from the mail box and have a new arrival you want to show off

Of course some knives would fall into all four catagories, or even more!

From my perspective, you defined them perfectly Mike.

And then there's "Mail Call, Post Your New GECs" over in the GEC forum. Everything has to be specialized these days. The produce guy can tell you where the kohlrabi is but he can't tell you where the nutmeg is. Sorry. I'm going off topic again.

I agree with Mikes assessment .I just don't understand why it was moved to Q&A??

Their placement baffles me as well. Seems to me, all four belong in "General Knife Discussion" along with "Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............" Hey, whadda I know.

If you guys want it moved, that can be arranged...but................................................... a lot of people would not find it for a while....

That was my reaction when I found them............about a month after becoming a member My light bulb reaction time is more like an old fluorescent bulb, it has to heat up and flicker a bit.

That was pointed mostly at Dale, a member that got on the Ark shortly after Bryan built it and a respected moderator with super administrative powers.

He called this week and we gabbed for an hour and fifteen minutes (we're both chatty Cathy's). Forum subjects were mentioned and he would say, "I didn't see that one." I finally discovered he was cruisin' the individual forums instead of the blue links. Now Dale ain't no dummy by any stretch of the imagination but it appears he has missed the boat on that one. Maybe he was just jerkin' my chain. He's been known to do that.

The way I figure it is...

I've always understood the threads as described by Mike. When I first got a camera I inadvertently started posting in the Photo thread. As I saw the photo quality posted there I quickly realized my error. Way out of my league. I now limit my posting to other-more appropriate threads. To illustrate: the highpoint of my photographic contributions was this. It will not, I promise, happen again.

Garry -- It took me a long time to figure out what's appropriate where and I still have trouble with it at times (reference the threads I've derailed).

Edit: You're too hard on yourself. I thought that was a cool picture.

Thank you Jerry. At best its cute. But many of you who post on the Photography thread are awesome in your camera skills.

2012 Bear rosewood wharncliffe lockback.The fit and finish on this one is very right.
Win I got it,it had a surprise in with it,another knife.A nice little Kutmaster,that I'm sure,will make a great whittling knife.Thanks" 313 Mike "it was a very nice surprise and I sure will git some good use out of it.

Had to make a run to town this p.m., stopped at the fleamarket on my way back. Picked all these up for $10. A utica Sportsman fixed blade (handles missing but has the original guard), a Hammer Brand single blade fob/pen, a Hammer Brand single blade fob/toothpick and a 2-blade Camco fob/pen knife. The Camco is probably one of the smallest i've ever come across. Also in the mix was this small unmarked cast iron jewelers anvil. All the fob knives are in great shape with blade snap and no cracked handles.
I do have one question. Does anyone know if Imperial might've built some of the Camco's?

I did a little trading with a friend today and came home with thees.2 Schrade 34ot and 6ot, 1Camillus 67, 1Case 6333.All are in great shape.The three Schrade knives have never been used and the little Case was just neat with its bone/wood handle and the Camillus I plan on just using it.
