Here are my two. I really didn't have dogs growing up. My wife wanted a little lap dog when I started working graveyard shift. We got the light colored one first. His name is Nash, the other one is a girl and her name is Kyra. They are our babies since all of the kids have grown up and moved on.

NCC1701, if your "children's" personalities are even half as cuddly as their appearance they are sure to provide you and your wife great delight.

We are older parents both kids left in the last four months or so.
Even before that I have been known to say the four legged kids are better than the two legged version at least part of the time.
Those two kids look well behaved and will probably be excited to see you every time you come home even if you only left for twenty minutes. Tell what two legged children love you that much.

Our Akbash Dog, “Big Dog”, got a new jacket. It’s the largest size I could find but it barely fits. That adjustable strap around his chest is as long as it can go.

No problem putting it on him, but I may cut off that elastic on the back legs. Seems to be tolerating it so far.

Tolerate is the word I'd use he doesn't look all that happy.

It’s been over a day and he’s still wearing it. He’s an outdoors dog, has lived in the pasture with livestock. He’s “on patrol” all night and sleeps most of the day. He won’t come inside, even into the barn, unless I drag him in or trick him with food. Then he is unhappy and barks endlessly (I think he can’t stand not being able to see out).

He’s now 11, which is old especially for a dog his size. So as cold as it is if I can’t get him inside, I decided to try a jacket to help keep him warm. Maybe he thinks I’m crazy!

I once knew a German Shepherd who could only tolerate being inside for about 20 minutes, then he insisted on going outside. I suppose it depends on the breed and how they were raised. Many dogs (most?) do much better inside with the family.

Cute pups, guys!
These 2 have no idea it's 25° outside, while they bathe.

Took these pictures about 10 days ago when this snow was falling. We got about 5” out of that storm. Dealing with -1 this morning so our trips outside are very short indeed now. The dogs love snow especially the Goldens. Scout is the old girl Golden and Moki is the young-un. Bristol is also in the pictures, she is a mixed breed with some pit bull in her. She treats Moki like he is her pup. Love watching them in the snow.
We have a coat for Bristol similar to Ken’s picture we put on her when it’s really cold. She has such short hair, it’s just a precaution. She loves her coat.
Redrider, those cats look like they could be a lot of fun when playing around.

Ken he's a fine looking dog, we have a couple of folks in our neighborhood that have goats and they have great Pyrenees that stay with those goats 24/7 I reckon.

Breezy kicking back at deer camp. Right now she is stretched out across my lap. She still thinks she is a lap puppy, at 97 pounds.

What idiosyncrasies do your pets have.
My male dog Red has always been weird when we give him a store bought antler to chew on. He always brings it to me to hold for him. Not the female.

Not sure if this qualifies as an idiosyncrasy:
Our Labrador Retrievers live in the house with us. They somehow know the difference between when I get up from my chair to go to the kitchen or the bathroom, etc, versus when I am going outside.

If I’m going anywhere in the house they just look at me and then go back to “sleep”. But if I’m going outside they beat me to the door! I don’t know what subtle clues I’m giving them to know the difference.
I’ve read that our dogs are masters at reading us - our feelings, our intentions, etc. Dogs have been living with and studying humans for thousands of years and it has evolved in their makeup to study and know their humans. Here’s a great book for any dog owner.

Good morning Ken,
Absolutely. The female dog piper has trained me oh so well. She wants to be touched, scratched or pet at whatever time she comes to me. Not sure if she hears me move at 3am or if I hear her. She will come up in bed before I go to sleep get in my grill paw me until I have pet her enough to her liking. Then sometime before or after Miss Lori comes in she will go in her crate, until that magic time in the middle of the night. Back in my face for a few minutes then lays between us until I get up for work. Then takes my spot pillow and all.
Thank you for the book recommendation. I will see if I can get it at the library looks interesting.
Have a Blessed day
Steve

Nice critters all.
Don't believe in Rainbow Bridge. Hope God has a 12 gauge I can borrow when I reunite with Nikki and Buddy.
The streets are paved in gold bricks. No way God's creation, literally ""Man's Best Friend" in froclicking in some meadow or on a bridge in purgatory. Are there flies in Heaven? I assume since he created them as well. Rant over, enough said.
My two angels currently on this earth. My friends. I belong to them. They don't belong to me.
Elsa and Bear. Bear is 150#, built, powerful but gentle and sweet. Elsa is 75#, sweet but tough, beauty queen. Pretty easy to figure which is which. Guess who rules the roost. Sweet souls. Blessed!

My two male dogs do that to me too but not the females, interesting.

Good looking friends Jerry
Must say you nailed it.
We belong them.
They in no way shape or form belong to us accept that we will be crushed when they are no longer there to get us to do what they want.
Unlike those pesky two legged kids/varmints and that love hate relationship.

Thanks Mark. Hope and your pack are well.
Steve,
We belong to them (had to edit previous as I stated it backwards on first pass) is the only way to see it, in my opinion. A gift that should never be taken for granted. You earn it by showing the best life you can provide them. Sometimes we fall short, I just keep trying!
Fully agree on the two legged comment. That's why I have dogs. Bonus is my dogs will quell any 2 legged issues.
Nice pup, Gino!
Not my fur babies, children, family. They don't get on my bed, couch, don't eat human food. Boundaries both ways. Don't look down or fault others for how they do it.
More pics of my friends. Bear's nickname is Pumpkinhead,. His head is that big. Think basketball size. Or Sweet Boy when he is kind and gentle.
Elsa's nickname is Girlie or Sweet Girl. Misnomer somewhat as she is a tough girl, but sweet, hence Girlie, Sweet Girl. Swivelhead as well as all my dogs have been the best guardians. Blessed for that. We have each other's backs.
Bear at the bar. Belly up to the bar. Elsa, random pics. May have posted before.
They are quite the Rockstars in town. They overshadow my presence. I am in awe of them. Hope they think the same of me.

Some people aught to be ___________. Last Weds our 2 cats were both in the widow looking out at something on the sidewalk in front of the house. I looked and it was a stray cat meowing at them. I was going to open the front door to get a better look, and when I did the cat attempted to get into our house. I shut the door quickly or he would have. I got a good look at him and he was not scruffy looking or skinny like a wild stray would be, so definitely was someone's pet and an indoor cat. It's been near zero or below here for the last week, so I put food and water out over the weekend and traced his overnight spot to the crawl space under my neighbors house. Yesterday morning he was across the street trying to get inside at the front door. Since it was going to be about 20 below zero here the next few days, I decided to make a move and try to catch him. Turns out I didn't have to try very hard, he saw me putting food in the dish outside and came running. I let him eat and then with gloves on decided to see if he would let me pick him up. No problem there, so I put him in the trap and closed the door. Normally we can call Animal Control here and they will come and pickup. But yesterday was a holiday and they were off duty. So I put him in the garage in the trap and put a heat lamp bulb over the trap as it was going to be an hour and a half till the local Humane Society opened. He curled up under the heat lamp and took a nap. I took him to the Humane Society and the girls there were astonished at how tame he was. They scanned him and no chip was found. So he would have gotten the whole treatment of fleabath, med check and be in a warm kennel with food and water for 3 days. Then he can go out for adoption. Doesnt that just frost you that there are people that would just dump an animal like that in sub zero weather to fend for themselves? Not the first time it has happened in our neighborhood.
