Bobby....is this miniature SCOUT a Colonial?

As I've said before, I have a real soft spot in my heart for the Black Delrin Ranger series. Bobby, you folks worked some real magic on your 1075 blade steel.

Hey pal....happy Saturday....
I have lots of questions involving this particular item....First and foremost..WHAT'S ON THE TANG!!??? lol....
With the multitude of styles we produced over the years, and especially with the jacks' like Rangers and that "Stockman" type of design, they almost all came in a smaller version's or even the three size patterns.....
When it came to most of the standard knives like the Scout in particular, changing the size of the original designed knife, the expense involved would NOT have made any sence!
These original sizes sold for decades!! Why changle or alter a good thing..it what I think the old timer's had in mind..
Just for the record, making a pocket knife in any particular style took MANY blanking hub and die tools. The blades; lets just say two blades. Two tools..the springs, liners/L+R, center and or cut scales, molded handles or covers to pin on..
That's 7 blanking tools, at a cost of 20-40 K per tool!! You can do the math and see what is your actual cost is before you even blank part one!!
After all that, sorry, I don't believe this is a Colonial...
The red, green, and gold speckled old Celluloid, also called the "Christmas Tree" material was used by many knife company's all over the world.. And for a knife this old, because of the solid NS Bolster's and solid pin constuction, and old can opener to the left tell's it's age..about mid 50's I think...maybe earlier..the BIG problem I have is the Nail Mark!!
The Long Pull Master Blade was king of the land for centuries!! This nail mark does not make sence for a knife that was clearly made over 50 years ago....
Keep in mind, this pocket blade may have been replaced at some point!!
Back to my original statement pal; what's on the tang??????????

Hello pipedreams...Nice Ranger line up...
Top left is the #933, then the #932, and th e #392 Barlow...
To the right is the medium size; #'s 923, and 922 as follows...
Some of these have seen some action and been cleaned up but look at the plated bolster's!! Man as much as I hated when we went that way years ago, they look dam good now!!
The real problem is that our actual cost for those bolster's was four times the estimated cost and that naturally effected the bottom line...when you count in the waste, which you have to do in manufacturing.... we almost lost money on these plated bolster's...It's all in my book..

I picked up this Colonial melon tester at the flea market today. It's in near mint condition.

I see Scott...It's def. not a Colonial..if it at least had U.S.A. on the tang it might have been; but you knew that! Thanks for the info..

Nice lady lighter and old two blade jack; it could be a Colonial if it has just USA on the tang. We made tons of naked lady knives using our # 826, with a clear plastic cover and a paper pic underneath!!

Mike, that's a neat fruit knife; our # 701..we made a smaller version # 601; they came serrated and none serrated. The imprint is hot die stamp; a very permanant ad spec. item.

We sold 10-20 Thousand of these every year for years to Dole Banana and Dole Pinnapple!
We originally made these with solid NS bolster's in the 40's and 50's....

Hey pal; I still love what you did with the handle of this Colonial Swiss Master.
The belt punch alone tells me late 70's for sure...The stock number is # 4802.
In the 80's, we changed the belt punch to a straight cut, straight edged blade
and that was the finall alteration till Colonial went under in 1998.
I hope I was helpfull...

Hello knife nuts!!
While cleaning out my closet (and building an ammo rack), I came across some interesting Colonial Old Cutler warranty that used to come with all Old Cutler knives....
We made two different styles in three different sizes of stockman's....
The baby, two blade and three blade, #'s 512 and 523
The medium size, #'s 522 and 523..
And the large stockman; my choice of item to customize, the #'s 532 and 533..
The # 533 had .095, 1095 High Carbon Steel, .032 brass liner's and a .025 and a .050 brass cut scale....solid nickle silver bolster's was the iceing on the cake!
The Colonial's had Delrin handles while I applied Mother of Pearl, Abalone Pearl, a multitude of hard woods like Snakewood and Rosewood. Mammoth Ivory, Stag, smooth bone and anything else I could fit and sand!!
Here's the "Old Cutler" warranty...

I would be happy to maintenance your Old Cutler to the best of my ability with the limited equipment I have. What does it need?? Sharpening, polishing, part replacement???
I can take care of all of the above for sure...
I'll even go you one better. I sent Scott all of my large stockman Hand Engraved bolster's.
If you desire, I'll have him send back 4 bolster's; brass or nickle silver!!
Because of Colonial's bolster design, I can pry off the old one's and squeeze on the new engraved bolster's!!! What do you think???
Please let me know what you need done and I'll call Scott right now and have him pull those engraved bolster's off E-Bay in case anyone else wants the same thing done to thier
large Colonial Stockman's...
For anyone else who needs replacement bolster's for the medium Old Cutler or the medium Ranger, I have many replacement bolster's available...
I also have replacement blades for the large and medium Colonial stockmans....
Pocket, sheep foot or spey blades....if anyone needs them, please let me know!!

Hey Joe, I just spoke to Scott and there are no bids on the bolster's so he's going to send them back!! So I should be able to put Hand Engraved bolster's on your Old Cutler!!!

I'll have to dig out the 4" Old Cutler I'm thinkin about - engraved bolsters would be sweet on it!! I can't remember the condition of the knife off hand but I think it's in pretty good shape. wont take much to bring it back to "like new."

Below is my most recent Colonial find.
It was empty when I got it. The knives in it are out of one of my Colonial folders. The two stockman's are NOS!!!
