Northern flicker!
We have them here also. They’re either geographically lost, or the name is wrong! Around here they’re often called Yellow-shafted flickers (they have yellow “shafts” under the tail).

Hope you enjoy it. I’ve had the Merlin app about a year, and the only problem is remembering to turn it on when I’m out and about. And trying to visually sight the birds it identifies - I can hear them too, but they’re usually hidden and well camouflaged. Without the app I wouldn't recognize their sounds either, but it has taught me a lot of them, so I now recognize what bird is making which call. I’m still learning new ones! ::tu::

The crackles and redwing blackbirds for the most part have vacated my bird feeders, I've had a couple of robins around never see them on a seed feeder. Several bluebirds have shown up. ::handshake::

::ds:: ::groove:: ::ds:: Mel has returned!! I have been missing those bird pics from the Southland, have you been spending all your time fishing? Thank you for the comment, I am a Flicker fan, and have been lucky enough to have 5 or 6 hanging around my yard all Winter.

Thanks, Ike. I had some health issues, heart stuff, that made it hard to be interested in the rest of life. I am doing better now. I did not have a feeder up this winter, which really cut down on the birds in my garden. Here are a few photos from the last week or two.

Health issues can definitely put things in perspective, hope things continue on a postive trend for you.

Great pics as usual.

Curious Red Crested Cardinal was checking me out while I was having lunch at a park in Honolulu last week (probably hoping for some crumbs)

You are correct, Floyd. They were introduced to Hawaii in the 1930s.

That is a very different cardinal! Nice shots of a beautiful bird. I was not aware that they had been introduced to Hawaii.
