Re: Allen Cutlery Co. Newburgh, N.Y.
Very recently, my visit to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is an EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY (1916-1919), one blade, one tang stamp, 3 3/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "EAGLE KNIFE CO (over) PAT. ALL'D. (over) MADE IN USA" While this pocket knife is most definitely NOT an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife, it DOES fit into the "cousin" category. This pocket knife is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the GEO. SCHRADE KNIFE CO., INC., the VALLEY FORGE CUTLERY COMPANY, and other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple construction. The main blade does have a CRISP half stop. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a NASTY closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT need cleaning. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

***** NOTE ***** NOTE ***** NOTE ***** NOTE *****
ANY previous post involving EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY or related pocket knives (CRUSADER & DIXON),
should NOT have "one spring" or "single spring" in the description of the pocket knife. The "spring"
on ALL of these pocket knives, is the "bend" which forms the bottom of each pocket knife.

A few days ago, my visit to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a G. SCHRADE, one blade, a cap lifter or bottle opener handle, 3" closed, one tang stamp, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "G. SCHRADE (over) KNIFE CO. INC. (over) B'PORT CT USA (over) STAINLESS" The main handle side has an image that appears to be a meeting, set during the Colonial era. The Continental Congress perhaps? The other handle side has the same image that appears to be a meeting, set during the Colonial era. Overall, this is pocket knife number thirty-one, in this pattern or style. This is my fourth pocket, in this pattern or style, that has this particular image on the handles. While this pocket knife is most definitely NOT an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife, it DOES fit into the "cousin" category. It is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY, the ETCHED P. COMPANY and some other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple, pattern or style. ALL thirty of my other pocket knives, in this pattern or style, are posted under and throughout, this topic or thread. The blade does have a SOFT half stop. The blade does have an OK opening snap. The blade does have an OK closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. It did NOT need any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

The handle pattern seems sharp and distinct. Doesn't show much use. Congrats.

A couple of days ago, my visit to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the most recent example to be added to my collection. It is a CRUSADER, one blade, one tang stamp, 2 7/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "CRUSADER (over) TRADE MARK (over) MADE IN U.S.A." While it most definitely is NOT an EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY pocket knife, it DOES fit into the "cousin" category. It is a "cousin" of the Allen Cutlery Company (1917-1925), the EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY (1916-1919), the DIXON CUTLERY COMPANY (1920) and the other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple, pattern or style. The main blade does have a GOOD half stop. The main blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a GOOD closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. This pocket knife has handles with "designs" or "grips" carved into them. This is my third "ALLEN" with this particular style of handles. Rest In Peace, Lt. (lt632ret)
It is because of Richard Langston, more specifically his book, "Knives of the Hudson Valley - 160 Years of American Cutlery History", that I first became aware of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY and its pocket knives. Along with many, many others.
He also contributed MANY informative posts under this topic or thread.
Thank you, Lt.

Nice post, Skip. I never really crossed paths with him here, but after seeing this, I went back thru some of his posts. He had a nice collection, and as you stated, was a valued contributor to AAPK.New_Windsor_NY wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2024 5:30 pm Rest In Peace, Lt. (lt632ret)

Re: Allen Cutlery Co. Newburgh, N.Y.
Yesterday morning, my visit to the post office produced this advertising, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my "slide lock" collection. It is a U.S.A., one blade, a cap lifter or bottle opener handle, 3" closed, all metal, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. It does have the "U.S.A." stamp on the main handle side, just above the pivot pin. It does have a slide lock that unlocks the blade, open or closed, and it also locks the blade, open or closed. The slide lock functions just fine, as it was designed. The main handle side says, "POCKET PARD ' NER NO. B-46 G - WITH THE EXCLUSIVE SAFE-T-SLIDE" The other handle side says nothing, it is blank. This is my twenty-second pocket knife in this fob or key ring, slide lock pattern or style. My other twenty-one pocket knives in this fob or key ring, slide lock pattern or style, have ALL been previously posted, by me, under and throughout this topic or thread. I bought this particular pattern or style of pocket knife because it is a "cousin" of the Allen Cutlery Company, the Eagle Knife Company, the G. Schrade Knife Company and other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple, pattern or style. Both handle sides show some signs of wear. But overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. I did NOT clean it. I just wiped it off.
I took some pictures and here it is.

Re: Allen Cutlery Co. Newburgh, N.Y.
A few days ago, my trip to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a VALLEY FORGE, two blades, two tang stamp, two handle stamps, 3 1/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The tang stamps are the curved or arched style, with "U.S.A." under the curved or the arched part of the tang stamps. The main blade front tang stamp says, "VALLEY FORGE (over) U.S.A. (over) CUTLERY CO. (over) NEWARK, N.J." The secondary blade front tang stamp says, "VALLEY FORGE (over) U.S.A. (over) CUTLERY CO. (over) NEWARK, N.J." The main handle side has the VALLEY FORGE logo stamp. The two letters, "V F" inside of a double circle. The other handle side also has the VALLEY FORGE logo stamp. The two letters, "V F" inside of a double circle. I bought this particular pocket knife and I am posting it here, under this topic or thread, because it is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY, the G. SCHRADE KNIFE COMPANY and the other cutlery or knife companies, that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple, pattern or style. The main blade does have a CRISP half stop. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade does have a CRISP half stop. The secondary blade does have a VERY GOOD opening snap. The secondary blade does have a VERY GOOD closing snap. I guesstimate that at least 99.999% of the original, factory applied handle coating remains. Overall, this pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. This pocket knife did NOT need any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

Re: Allen Cutlery Co. Newburgh, N.Y.
This afternoon, my visit to the post office produced this advertising pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is an UNBRANDED, one blade, a cap lifter or bottle opener handle, 3" closed, all metal, advertising, pocket knife. If this pocket knife had a tang stamp at one time, it doesn't have a tang stamp now. But, I am 99.999% positive that this pocket knife did have either a G. SCHRADE or an ETCHED P. COMPANY tang stamp. The main handle side says, "Barrett Roofings" The other handle side says, "The greatest Name in Roofing" and has "Barrett" in a circle. Overall, this is pocket knife number thirty-two, in this pattern or style. However, this is my first pocket knife, in this pattern or style, that is advertising this particular company. ALL thirty-one of my other pocket knives, in this pattern or style, have been previously posted, under and throughout, this topic or thread. The main blade does have a WEAK half stop. The main blade does NOT have an opening snap. The main blade does have an OK closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning at all.
I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

I looked at these pocket knives a little more closely. MY above quoted ***** NOTE ***** etc.,
is WRONG! In regards to ANY and ALL previous posts involving EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY or
related pocket knives (CRUSADER & DIXON), they ALL do have an actual spring or springs.
It extends from the pivot pin to the center pin. The spring on ALL of these pocket knives,
IS NOT, I repeat, IS NOT the bend which forms the bottom of each pocket knife.

Re: Allen Cutlery Co. Newburgh, N.Y.
A few days ago, my visit to the post office produced this advertising, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. The main handle side says, "INDIANA DESK CO., INC." The other handle side says nothing, it is blank. This is my twenty-third pocket knife in this fob or key ring, slide lock pattern or style. My other twenty-two pocket knives in this fob or key ring, slide lock pattern or style, have ALL been previously posted, under and throughout this topic or thread. While this pocket knife is most definitely NOT an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife, it DOES fit into the "cousin" category. It is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the G. SCHRADE KNIFE COMPANY, the ETCHED P. COMPANY and some other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple, pattern or style. I would guesstimate that at least 99.999% of the factory applied coating remains on the handles. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT need cleaning. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

Very recently, my trip to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is an EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY (1916-1919), one blade, one tang stamp, 2 7/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "EAGLE (over) KNIFE Co" While this pocket knife is most definitely NOT an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife, it DOES fit into the "cousin" category. It is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the G. SCHRADE KNIFE COMPANY, the ETCHED P. COMPANY and some other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple, pattern or style. The main blade does have a GOOD half stop. The main blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD closing snap. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT need any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.
