I caught his final game on the radio. He got a heck of a send-off. Bet it was even better in person!

I'm hoping the Brewers will face the Rangers or the Rays in the World Series. Both teams vying for their first title would make for great baseball, methinks.

I was quite happy to see the Diamondbacks dispatch the Dodgers, big money doesn't always win........see the New York Mets 2023 edition!

I’m betting the media types are pulling for Philadelphia to beat the Braves. Otherwise the rest of the games will be with teams from “flyover country”. If the Philthies are out, there’s nobody left from the Northeast, and nobody from the West Coast. Their worst nightmare! They might have to rub elbows with the unwashed!

I agree. I am hoping for a Rangers/Diamondbacks series.

That would be nice! With Gray, Scherzer and deGrom all on the IL, not sure the Rangers will have enough healthy pitching to get there. Gray is supposed to be back (he’s eligible to come off IL tomorrow). Scherzer is iffy at best, but he’s trying. https://www.mlb.com/news/max-scherzer-s ... icle-share Neither has pitched in weeks though, so how effective they can be is questionable. ::shrug:: In a possible seven game series they will need at least one of them. Bochy has got them winning so far with smoke and mirrors. The hitting and defense has been stellar, and they need to keep that going to beat the Trashtros, who are healthy and hitting on all cylinders now.

If Max is breathing he'll want in. 😉

Wow, who would have thunk it. The Rangers win the first two games in Houston. Boch has his boys playing.

I too was happy to see that. I also took great pleasure in seeing Philadelphia whoop up on the Snakes. Now keep it up.

They should whoop up on them, their team payroll of 245 million is more than double that of Arizona.
I gotta root for the D'backs, their averahe player salary is only 3 or 4 million, more in line with common guys like me. ::rotflol:: ::dang::

Ike, I guess you’re just not doing enough “special” things to warrant the big salary. Those guys from Arizona didn’t do anything notable in last nights’ game either - at least not according to the MLB headlines.

And Philthiedelphia must have been awesome! They got most of the press (being from the East Coast, dontcha see) They’re the only media darlings left. Why, even the Trashtros somehow got a headline in a losing effort. But they’re the champs until someone takes it from them.

More big headlines for the Phillies this morning, looks like they are going to steamroll their way to the WS. At least the ALCS is much different than the Lone Star Series was back in September when those 2 teams last met.

Not sure how long Scherzer can go today - he hasn’t pitched in almost 5 weeks. He’s undoubtedly on a short pitch count so I’m expecting if he can go 3 innings or maybe 4 at best, we’ll see the Rangers’ bullpen early in this game. Maybe even sooner if Max doesn’t have “it”. Which is a scary thought!

With both being expansion teams there’s not a long history like some rivalries. For years Houston was in the NL so they didn’t play the Rangers at all until MLB introduced inter-league play, and then created “rivalry series”. Then Houston moved to the AL and into the AL West with the Rangers. Even then it wasn’t much of a rivalry, since at that time Houston was, well, the “Lastros” for a reason. For those with short memories, up until 2016 the Rangers pretty much dominated the series (as recently as 2016, that year Houston won only 2 games, the Rangers won 15). Since then the Astros flipped the script, and have been dominating everybody - this year marks their 7th consecutive trip to the ALCS. There’s been no shortage of hatred from Houston toward the Rangers but now it’s become more mutual dislike.

For the record I’ve always had a strong dislike of the Colt 45s/Astros. But that’s a story for another time.

I was never a fan either, although I did like Hal Woodeschick
and Bob Bruce, I have always been a pitching fan. Houston lost all credibility with me when the Astrodome was built. The grounds crew running around in space suits was bad enough, but when they realized that they couldn't grow grass indoors and actually painted the dead grass green, that was too much for me.

So pleased to see Texas hammer Houston 11-4. Now, come on Philly, do your thing.

I hope both of the young pitchers have good games and it is not a blowout for either team. I won't mind if the Phillies win but I am still rooting for the Diamondbacks and their small payroll and players that they developed rather than the "bought" Philadelphia team. Besides that, The Phillies are hard to watch, a number of their players could use a bath, shave, and haircut!

10 days ago this was the prediction by ESPN, and most everyone else......David Schoenfield was the lone writer with the correct prediction. Should be a great W.S.

::woot:: An all Southwest World Series, both teams located in “flyover country” where supposedly no one of any consequence lives! The east and west coast media moguls are devastated!

I find it interesting how both Texas and Arizona took the same route to the World Series.

You are on the money, O.C. I suppose I should have said that the biggest surprises (to me) in game 1 was Gray's total dominance, and Sewald's failure to close it out. Hopefully, the upcoming games will be as exciting as the 1st one.

The Kelly/ Montgomery match up tonight should be a good one too.
