Very recently, my visit to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a G. SCHRADE, one blade, a cap lifter or bottle opener handle, 3" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "G. SCHRADE (over) KNIFE CO. INC. (over) B'PORT CT USA (over) STAINLESS" There is NO advertising on this pocket knife. On the main handle side, there is a space for personalization. Overall, this is pocket knife number thirty-three, in this pattern or style. My other thirty-two pocket knives, in this pattern or style, have ALL been previously posted, under and throughout, this topic or thread. While this pocket knife is most definitely NOT an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife, it DOES fit into the "cousin" category. It is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY, the ETCHED P. COMPANY and some other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple, pattern or style. The main blade does have a GOOD half stop. The main blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The main blade does NOT have a closing snap. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning.
I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

A couple of days ago, my trip to the post office produced this advertising, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my "slide lock" collection. It is a U.S.A., one blade, a cap lifter or bottle opener handle, 3" closed, all metal, fob or key ring, pattern or style of pocket knife. It does have the "U.S.A." stamp on the main handle side, just above the pivot pin. It does have a slide lock that unlocks the blade, open or closed, and it also locks the blade, open or closed. The slide lock functions just fine, as it was designed. The main handle side says, "GRAND RAPIDS FARMERS GRAIN ASSN. - GRAND RAPIDS - PHONE 23931" The other handle side says nothing, it is blank. This is my twenty-fourth pocket knife in this fob or key ring, slide lock pattern or style. My other twenty-three pocket knives in this fob or key ring, slide lock pattern or style, have ALL been previously posted, under and throughout this topic or thread. While this pocket knife is NOT an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife, it DOES fit into the "cousin" category. It is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the G. SCHRADE KNIFE COMPANY, the ETCHED P. COMPANY and some other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple, pattern or style. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT need cleaning.
I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

It also became the most recent example to be added to my collection. It is an EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY (1916-1919), two blades, one tang stamp, 3 3/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "EAGLE KNIFE CO (over) PAT. PEND (over) MADE IN USA" While this pocket knife is NOT an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife, it DOES fit into the "cousin" category. This brand of pocket knife is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the GEO. SCHRADE KNIFE CO., INC., the VALLEY FORGE CUTLERY COMPANY, and other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple construction. The main blade does have a GOOD half stop. The main blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade does have a GOOD half stop. The secondary blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The secondary blade does have a GOOD closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning.
I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

I looked at these pocket knives a little more closely. MY above quoted ***** NOTE ***** etc.,
is WRONG! In regards to ANY and ALL previous posts involving EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY or
related pocket knives (CRUSADER & DIXON), they ALL do have an actual spring or springs.
It extends from the pivot pin to the center pin. The spring on ALL of these pocket knives,
IS NOT, I repeat, IS NOT the bend which forms the bottom of each pocket knife.

It is an ALLEN CUTLERY CO., Boys' Pattern No.01, one blade, one tang stamp, one handle stamp, 3 1/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "ALLEN (over) CUTLERY CO. (over) NEWBURGH, N.Y." The patent date handle stamp says, "PAT. (over) JAN-23-17 (over) U.S.A." The main blade (VERY SHARP!!) does have a CRISP half stop. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT need cleaning at all.

It is also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, one blade, two handle stamps, 3 1/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The manufacturer handle stamp says, "ALLEN (over) CUTLERY CO. (over) NEWBURGH, N.Y." The patent date handle stamp says, "PAT. (over) JAN-23-17 (over) U.S.A." If the blade ever did have a tang stamp, it does NOT have a tang stamp now. On both of the handle sides, the factory applied, black oxidation, is ALMOST complete and has worn down fairly evenly. The main blade does have a WEAK half stop. The main blade does have an OK opening snap. The main blade does NOT have a closing snap. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT need any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

Yesterday afternoon, my trip to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to join my collection. It is an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, NEWBURGH N.Y. (1917-1925), one blade, two handle stamps, 4 1/8" closed, all metal, pattern No. 30, hawkbill pocket knife. The manufacturer handle stamp says, "ALLEN (over) CUTLERY CO. (over) NEWBURGH, N.Y." The patent date handle stamp says, "PAT. (over) JAN-23-17 (over) U.S.A." There is NO tang stamp. This is my seventh, ALLEN No. 30, hawkbill pocket knife. My other six, ALLEN No. 30, hawkbill pocket knives, have ALL been previously posted, under and throughout, this topic or thread. I actually have a total of nine of these hawkbill pocket knives. ALL nine have an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY handle, two have Ulery blades. This blade appears to have been reshaped. The blade has a VERY CRISP half stop. The blade has a VERY NASTY opening snap. The blade has a VERY NASTY closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT require cleaning. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

It appears to possibly be both, an ATKINSON AND an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, one blade, one tang stamp, one handle stamp, 3 1/8" closed, all metal, advertising, pocket knife. This is a pocket knife "oddity" because it has an ATKINSON blade with an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY handle. The main blade front tang stamp is block style and says, "ATKINSON (over) CAPON (over) SPRINGS" The main side handle stamp says, "PAT. (over) JAN-23-17 (over) U.S.A." The other handle side says, "ATKINSON - KNIFE-IT CUTS - CAPON SPRINGS, W. VA." with 25¢ in a circle, on the right side. This is my first ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife that has advertising on it. If this pocket knife did NOT have the advertising on the handle, then I would suspect that this pocket knife is just another example of a previous owner, combining surviving parts of two different pocket knives, to make one, functional, pocket knife. BUT, it DOES have advertising on the handle. So, did the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY manufacture this pocket knife WITH the advertising on the handle? If YES, then GREAT!! If NO, then who did? The blade does have a CRISP half stop. The blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The blade does have a GOOD closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT need any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

After conducting a multi headache causing, WAY MORE than just a basic Google search, I found PLENTY of information on Capon Springs, West Virginia. It is a town AND it was/is a resort. Yes, there definitely was a Will Atkinson associated with Capon Springs, West Virginia. Is this the same ATKINSON advertised on this pocket knife? Probably, but I could NOT find one single, minuscule, tidbit of information about this pocket knife. Or, its connection to Will Atkinson and/or Capon Springs.

I am still searching for a connection between Will Atkinson of Capon Springs, West Virginia, and the ATKINSON, CAPON SPRINGS, WEST VIRGINIA pocket knife. The following tidbit of information is from the "American Roads and Global Highways" website. It is from a story by Kathleen Walls. I edited it for the information only pertaining to Will Atkinson and the Capon Springs resort.

"In 1917, Capon Springs experienced a small revival. Will Atkinson, bought the resort and began selling bottled Capon Spring water. He built a bottling plant in a portion of what is now the bath house and distributors throughout the country tried unsuccessfully to market the water."

Capon Springs and Farms Resort' modern history began when Louis L. Austin acquired the spring in 1932.

I also read somewhere else that Will Atkinson was also involved in a few other, different, business ventures. Maybe selling these pocket knives, promoting Capon Springs, was going to be one of those business ventures? If it was one of Will Atkinson's other business ventures, I don't think it was a success at all, and that's IF it ever got started. The ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY going out of business in 1925 could have caused Will Atkinson to abandon this particular business venture. This may possibly be a reason for the scarcity of these ATKINSON, CAPON SPRINGS, pocket knives. When all is said and done, the only people that know the history of this pocket knife, are the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY and Will Atkinson.

This is not something strange as the two panhandle areas are almost separate entities from the rest of us in WV. Interesting knife, nevertheless.
