I've been trying to improve my skills with the camera,great thing with digital is you can take a ton of shots using different settings and figure out what works. May eventually set up a light box and use a tripod but for now it's hand held outdoors.

Nice work John, those two knife shots are especially challenging! Turned out well though.

Thanks Mike, the front one is still somewhat out of focus, will have to do some more experimentation with settings and technique.

Very Nice ,John !!!!!!!! ____ I use a Canon Powershot, and the great outdoors, is my ""light box "" too !!!!!_____ I put my camera on auto & use the micro focus ( flower symbol pops up**) for close shots --- getting the angles,that don't show a reflection of you or the camera is the hard part *** still working on that every shoot --- you have some really nice knives and your photography skills will get better, everytime you shoot !!! ( I don't see anything wrong with the pic's above, outstanding !!!!! )

John - I like those photos! The patina on that old Walden adds a level of interest to that photo, I think.

Monk - nice photos. That Primitive Bone Jack goes really well with the wood background.

I was out messing around with a couple of knives this morning. The Queen is very photogenic, but the Steel warrior is a bit more of a challenge.

Good point Monk, I'm having better luck with definition using the shade, here is almost the same shot, sun vs shade.

Thanks for the tip, Monk. That shot was in bright morning sun. My favorite light is late afternoon sun, just before sunset. It just seems like I get better results with late afternoon sun.

Lol, well Jerry it has more to do with mistakes over these past 10 plus years of trying to take knife pictures. Thank you Mike and Jerry! Mike, the speys are very handy for most uses not just castration! Ouch! Excuse me, "animal husbandry". In other words cutting their nuts off!

This is one I've had a while, but enjoy showing it off.

Great pics of a very classic looking knife Rustle! The wood handles kind of give it somewhat of a nautical look....fits right in with your choice of reading materials there.
