Thanks CxIII .... I have been doing some research on knife sharpening and I turned up some old ink prints of back when 'Ol Marco was "honing" his skills at sharpening a blade... It looks like even back in those days he had developed a pretty good technique on the old grinding wheel.....

Gorgeous knives guys!! I love slipjoints!

I got one a couple of days ago and I can't let it out of my hands. I don't know who worked with it, but it's pretty modified. I measured the hardness - 59-60 HRc, not that it matters but i was wondering if it was closer to 57 or 59

My buddy who rehandled these for me would be honored to read them. I know that it's maple, but not what kind. I've got another electricians knife like this but with oak, and two more from him on the way; an 8" chef knife and a small Western skinner both with Black walnut. He jokingly calls his operation Bubba Lee's Customs, but he does good work and I love to keep him busy by giving him work orders and rusty knives to clean.

Marco, that is a great slip-joint Melon-Tester ... My slip-joint Melon-Testers all have synthetic scales, so your rosewood and brass combo is very pleasing to my eye ...

I have found that the rosewood and brass combo with no markings tend to indicate a handmade piece from Pakistan* (and sometimes India or Afghanistan). I have some pieces made in Afghanistan and northern Pakistan, all hand made of good general quality. Not the fit and finish of GEC, but a fraction of the cost with good high carbon steel and great for EDC and hard use in the field.

* ... rosewood is common in Pakistan. Specifically, Indian rosewood, also known as sheesham, is widely grown in regions like Punjab and Sindh. It is cultivated in block plantations and is valued for its timber, fuel wood, and other secondary products

Thanks for the information, buddy, your comments confirm much of what I thought. The wood and brass was what I liked so much, and whoever made it did fine job, not a flaw to be seen. I think I have one more with wooden covers I'll try to find and post. Rosewood was a calculated guess on my part, and what you say sounds right. Thx again!

I'm just hanging out today with Zeus and my latest "Comfort Axe". ... I was lucky enough to find a rather rare (down here) Walters "boys-axe" as some might call it...



*The Walters Axe Company in Hull**, founded in the 1850s, was in continuous operation, passed from father to son for over one hundred and fifteen years. Morley, son of Henry Walters, inherited the business and was still running it at the age of 96 when it shut down in the early 1970s. The closing of the Walters plant signaled the end of the one-time flourishing axe industry in the Ottawa-Hull area.

**Hull is the central business district and oldest neighborhood of the city of Gatineau, Quebec....

.... Uhhh .... Thanks for the geography lesson Marco... ... I think I found a way to simplify things as far as that goes ... I am familiar (as most people are thanks to "The X Files") with Area 52* ... Well now, there appears to be a new "Area" of mystery and wonder on the horizon.... .... I will now refer to the G.W.N (Canada) as "Area 51" ( 51 as in the 51st.... ... well, you know the rest..... ).......
