2013 GEC Tidioute lock back 72 in ebony, Wharncliffe, 1095 blade blackened/patina with horseradish and Dejon mustard several times. After heavy use I mustard/horseradish it to maintain the shade of blade black, never have to polish or worry about fingerprints or rust. Shape fits the hand well, good for sustained use, smooth transitions, bolsters, action, flush pins, wood is light for carry and grip, nice all around.

2013 Tidioute #55 Hounds Tooth Wharncliffe liner lock, brick red. Short of 3 1/2 closed, 6 even open. Smaller than I thought it would be, but stout and solid. Great lock up, no wobble or play all my 72's have (3). One of the best GEC of mine and for 76 smackers a great deal too given the excellent quality of this piece.

Beautiful deep rich red color and great jigging on that houndstooth 55, Ivoryman...and, of course, you know I LOVE me a wharncliffe blade on just about any knife. Great score!

Thanks for the compliments Q, in return how about another dose of red, or maroon, burgundy or something like that with a little different jigging and little different Wharncliffe for your viewing pleasure. Another beauty...why is it that GEC has figured out how to dye bone in the "old style" that Case used to but apparently no longer does on their dyed bone knives? Just to be clear, to all the Case collectors/lovers (like myself) out there, I still think Case does a fantastic job on stag and natural bone handles, but the newer, dyed bone Case knives just don't have the same "depth" or "saturation" like the oldies did IMPO.

Any thoughts...from the Case experts?

GEC Tidioute #26 Sleeveboard, Little Carver, Goldenrod, Wharncliffe and coping. 5 open, 3 closed. Looked bigger in pictures, wish it were a bit bigger, but that aside this is an excellent knife. Thick, wide, and though small, very heavy duty feel and good fit/weight in the hand. Fit and finish is great, just like my #47, 77, 55, 57. Rock solid feel, nothing thin and delicate here. Started buying GEC when I found out the Northwoods I loved were made there. This is built like a Northwoods, for a lot less money.

I, too, have a smooth ivory bone on the way...however, I've just gotta ask: Does anyone else think that shield is as ridiculous as I do? "Beer Scout Knife"? Seriously? Truth be told, that shield was almost a dealbreaker for me...but, the knife itself was just too cool to pass up...and when I saw it in smooth ivory bone, well, that pretty much sealed the deal. I can't wait to see the Brazilian Bloodwood with the old style bow tie shield.

Not a deal breaker for me, I like it as a gimmicky thing. Not every knife has to be a blade Daniel Boone would've carried. I just went with the handles I wanted.

I'd like to weigh in. Don't mind "Beer Scout" on the shield, if they have to say anything in words, but I prefer symbols and icons or pictographs etc. To add "Knife" to the mix is redundant, doubt anyone will confuse this with something other than a knife, and this is almost beyond a shield, it's morphing into a scale divider or a chrome strip down the side. Too large, to wordy, too lame. I got it for the blade etch, that is priceless, those initials in that round, suggestive shape rimmed with a circle says it all.

Sorry, but I guess I'm just not into "gimmicky" when it comes to my knife collection. Been there and done that...and ended up selling 'em all off because they got tiresome to look at after awhile. I don't have the time or money anymore to waste on gimmicks...life's too short and money's too scarce and there's far too many knives I want that don't resort to gimmicks. That being said, I think that despite the hideous shield, the smooth ivory bone Beer Scout is a very cool and tasteful addition to my collection. I'll just display it pile side up--problem solved.
