*edit- I misread your use of the word, "Tahoe." ::facepalm:: A vehicle not a location. ::mdm::

You probably mean 4 years ago, when the war in Ukraine began.

$4.69 at Costco in Salem Oregon this week. I see a Chevron station in town that is $5.79. He is usually one of the highest places in town. It's more expensive in Oregon because of our tax & spend governor. Hope she is kicked out at this election. She wants to add even more gas taxes!

It was higher here 4 years ago and remained higher two years ago. A big impact was the prior American presidential administration’s “war on fossil fuels” cutting the production of energy (oil, LNG, etc), purposefully reducing supply and thereby driving up energy prices. (While simultaneously subsidizing the production and sale prices of electric vehicles). All at the consumer’s and taxpayer’s expense. Governments artificially manipulating supply and demand never works long term. ::skeptic::

Since 2020, US production has only increased. What I mean is that the price of gasoline, without government regulations, depends on the price of oil on the world market. The domestic policy of a country, even the US, does not significantly affect the global trend.

| Year | Average Production (Million barrels/day) | Trend |
|---|---|---|
| 2020 | 11.31 | Pandemic-driven decline |
| 2021 | 11.26 | Stabilization |
| 2022 | 11.91 | Recovery phase |
| 2023 | 12.93 | New record high |
| 2024 | 13.21 | Steady growth |
| 2025 | 13.60 | Historical peak |

Oil is indeed a global commodity. It is not however independent of government intervention. Government intervention, such as suppressing or preventing exploration, production, transportation, distribution, etc impacts the global market supply and therefore the prices at the pump. Especially when that intervention impacts a significant supplier. Global demand for energy increases continually, often at a rate that outpaces supply. Citing only supply figures independent of corresponding demand does not explain prices. Gasoline and diesel prices have indeed increased here recently. The simple fact is that gasoline (and diesel) prices here in the U.S. were as high or higher 2 years ago, and 4 years ago, than they are today. ::handshake::

Here in Germany gas is up to 2,20€ per Liter. The Exchange rate today is $1,17 = 1 Euro. There are 3,785 liters in a gallon. So if my math is correct, one gallon cost $ 9,75 at the moment and Diesel was up even higher than that. :x
Driving 30 min. to work is almost like you are just working for gas money.

Even considering buying a motor cycle. ::hmm::

Hey Tom, how are you my friend? Let me tell you, my brother bought a Renault Zoe and he is extremely happy. But he lives in a house and can charge whenever he wants. I don't have that opportunity, and in Bulgaria the network of charging stations is not very developed.
In Bulgaria, the price of A95 has been at 1.5 euros per liter for about a month. In American units, this is $6.66 per gallon of premium.

Makes me appreciate my time there from '83 to '86.
The DM averaged 3.50 to the US $1.
The military received ration cards for gas that helped with the price. Being 40 years ago I don't recall the amount, but I always had plenty, even with an hour drive from the apartment to the base.
