I was messing with some camera settings, and photoshop adjustments. I think this one turned out pretty good.

Yes, Rookie, that shot turned out well! Here are some Trestle Pine knives with old growth timber handles, ash & oak. (I'm cheating a little by posting these in two separate threads)

Yeah, that was outside on a treestump on a bright sunny day, but I was in the shade of the trees. I took 3 pictures, 1 over-exposed, 1 normal, and 1 under-exposed, and then compiled them together in photoshop. It makes the shadows darker, and the bright spots brighter, and more vivid color.

I'm told it is the best way to have the camera show what the human eye actually sees when looking at the world.

My camera will do something similar internally, but with (so far) less than satisfactory results. I like the way your photos turn out. For photo editing I use a 20+ year old copy of Jasc Paint Shop Pro.

Using a tripod, and the 5 second timer, is necessary when you're doing multiple images that you are going to mix together. That way you don't have to worry about lining everything up.

I remember Paint Shop Pro, I fiddled with that program back in 7th or 8th grade, like you said, probably 20 years ago.

Going through my storage box, I found this one - a 1990 Case wharncliffe trapper. I like this era of Case because a) I was married in 1990; b) The date scheme is different & easy to read and c) It only lasted a short time - 3 1/2 years.

Is that the Wharncliffe Mini-Trapper or is it full size? Love that blade configuration but can only find it on eBay in the Mini-Trapper.

I'm on a Tuna Valley kick, here's another one I photographed over the weekend.

Those Tuna Valley's are very nice knives. My trapper is 3 1/2", must be a mini. The tang is stamped 207WHSS over 1st ISSUE.

Is there a primer somewhere on how to set up properly to take good knife photos indoors? Currently for my Ebay listings and for my store listings here on AAPK, I use a Canon Powershot ELPH 520 HS and I take all of my photos outdoors. I have to wait for perfect light, minimal wind, etc. so it's kind of a pain but I do get decent photos.

I have tried taking photos indoors with a tripod and light box but was never happy with the results, but I fell that I should try again especially with winter coming on.

I so far only have success with outdoor photography. I'm anxious to see what tips I can learn about indoor photography.

If these pictures are acceptable to you, the first two were taken indoors next to a window with a venation blind that was all the way down and the sun was to the rear left during the morning hours. The image was then "massaged" with a Photo Shop type FREE product called PhotoScape. PhotoScape is not as powerful as Photo Shop but it holds it's own. I don't recall the circumstances regarding the third picture but I'm not ashamed of any of them.

Edit: The pictures were taken with an old Sony Cybershot S650 7.2MP Digital Camera.
