SCHRADES MY TRUE LOVE

HUMMM bought it???? I have several artifacts relating to that era I never bought any in fact they were quite gratefully given to me. Here is a picture which I have posted before . Sorry if my wording in the pic offends but actually not very sorry since it is how I feel. I do not wear the hat it is simply another part of history, which I was for better or worse familiar with. I guess some knife content would be in order there was a show this weekend which as usual I did not go to. Thankyou to those who contacted me and I appreciate the invitation usually at those shows I walk for hours and find nothing or else if I see something it is way over priced so I seldom go to them anymore. However I did get wind of a couple of trinkets in an antique store. so I drove to New jersey ( hooray for GPS ) the Schrade display is the twin to another one I have posted pics of before but here is its pic as well The new arrival is the empty one since I have not had time to fill it.
(The full one needs to be dusted). Should you come across these late 20tys and thirtys styles note they are not the same size and do not always have the Standard of America or everlastingly sharp trade mark on them. This is not unusual they were made by various companies and were sometimes a bit different. I have seen both these and at least 2 other styles as well over the years. Also the older ones were etched and then painted gold the later just painted usually the later version carried the full logo ( since it was painted on. ). I have all the time frames Full glass till 20tys then these, ect until the end however these seem to be the most sought after. The last two of the 4 or 5 ever on ebay brought 1800 and 2200. Which is quite insane I guess that is why I have two. If the museum ever gets going I hope to display the entire time frame of 100 years.
The razor display was just to tempting so I bought it also, it replaces an old Union PA case I sold last year not as rare but great graphics. and whats a few bucks more going to matter. LT PS I already have the knives to fill this new case and was out of room so it should make a nice addition. PPS ERIC gave me Bryans email thankyou.

Aside from a broken 2OT and Rusty1's pearl gent's knife, there was pretty much nothing in the way of Schrades, save for a bunch of beat up OT's. I think I left a little knee cartilage trail on the floor though. The company was great . Hanging at the food concession talkin' knives was the best part of the show, the worst part was trying to walk

Schrade Cut Co 7706B not bad for a sum of $20.00 only, and considering it is listed as per the catalogue cut sheet from 1926 making it over 80 years old, or thereabouts. Cut sheet courtesy of Eric.

That is a sweet old Cut and I am not a fan of MOP, but that one is exceptional!

I may have to come back there and poke around at some of your shows.

Thanks Dale! I know it's a long way although your welcome this way any time, more to the point I think most of us this end would like to get up your way for a show sometime.

I did't have a spy glass to read the tang stamp and so I asked the seller, he said it was a Schrade Cut co, I asked him how much! Thinking that I would not be taking this one home. twenty dollars was the reply! I could not get my hands in my pockets quick enough. There was a guy standing next to me praying that I was not going to take it, he told me that he collected Schrades also I was pleased
no doubt.

I'm not generally a fan of MOP either It's the only one I own! Had to get it though.

I really like the bolsters on that knife.
I will save a copy of it & try to replicate the design on the bolsters when I find a knife with bolsters the right shape.

So this fellow is liquidating a whittler collection, and when I saw these two Schrades in it, I dove so fast the seller wound up talking to the soles of my boots! (You know; the ones I can't afford to re-sole because all my money goes for knives!!)

The real truth is that Russell couldn't read the tang stamp because he was looking over his shoulder to be sure Eric with his bum knee wasn't catching up to him.

When we met later at the snack bar, and Russ was asked if he found anything, he took it out of his pocket and said " just this old thing."

Eric should be careful that Russ doesn't close the car door on his leg next time.

BTW, all this talk about my screwed up knee was due to my suffering through four weeks with a knee that looked like someone stuck a softball over my kneecap. Couldn't bend it at all without it feeling like someone was tearing my thigh muscle off the bone, which also kept me from driving and working the last two. Well it turns out that I have second stage Lyme disease, which tends to attack the knees among other things. Just thought I'd tell you guys, especially those in the Northeast, to keep an eye out for those damned ticks, this crap was way worse than I'd imagined, I'll definitely be more wary from now on!

To answer your question, I just picked those knives up yesterday! The only two Schrades he had. He must have 100 Case whittlers though!

Thought I'd share this new addition with you, still has the Kon Kav etch. Quite minty aside from the bizarre fine scratches on the small clip. Kind of looks like someone took steel wool to it, but I can't understand why :

Etches do NOT co-operate with scanners! That's an interesting knife, Eric. Do you think it was made for Schrade by Camillus??

Charlie, that's quite possible. Here's a pic of a similar Camillus model I gleened off Ebay (the picture, not the knife, hope I didn't break any copyright laws ). Same length as the Schrade at 3 5/8". The only difference I can see is the slightly different shape of the coping blade , the lack of handle pins, and of course the Kon-Kav master clip. I know Schrade came out with the 863 sometime in the early fifties, and the peachseed was available on the Schrade Walden knives for only a short time in the late fifties, possibly into the very early sixties (I need LT's expertise on those dates). I'm not sure when Camillus was making theirs, but I can bet it coincides with the Schrades pretty well. This particular Camillus has delrin handles, which would put this model at a slightly later date.

I thought I'd add this pic of the backsprings. The bolsters on the 804 (larger) pattern are fancier, with nice thread lines, and the liners are "worked" on the 837 (smaller) pattern. I love it when the liners turn out to be dressed up! The seller didn't tell me about them, so it was a pleasant surprise.
