All About Pocket Knives

Hey gun guys! I've got this old .22 that my dad gave me. Hes a music man, never did much shootin, so most of his guns are in poor shape, but I like this pistol and would love to get it cleaned up for some plinkin.
Its stamped H&R inc Model 929. As shown in the pic, its missing the grips, but as far as I can tell, it functions just fine.
Anybody know anything about this pistol?

Harrington & Richardson, they're fine old firearms. My uncle has one very much like that. $150 - $200+ in good condition. Grips were that black plastic/Bakelite/hard rubber material they used back in the day.

Mike, they have some rosewood grips for your H&R model 929 on e-bay for about $15.

I've got a H&R 929 stainless-walnut grips I carried it in my bibs pocket when runnin bunnies had alotta fun with it through the years never worried about buggerin it up think I give $89.00 for it--Congradulations on your new son Mike!!

Just wanted to share some revolver photos. Every thing is .357 mag except for the 6 inch barreled S&W which is .38 sp.

Other than an M1 Carbine (WWII) I have no military rifles but I have always admired the LE. Someone said of WWI rifles that the Mauser was the best hunting rifle; the Springfield the best target rifle; and the LE the best combat rifle. It is my understanding the British troops were trained to deliver 15 aimed shots in 1 minute, the so called mad minute. You have a fine selection of rifles there.

I think you mean from WWI; by WWII the LE was beaten by semi-auto battle rifles from several countries.

As for rate-of-fire, a well-trained man shooting an LE, from the Hawkins position, and reloading with stripper clips, should be able to do at least 20 RPM. Before I was a teenager, I managed 30 rounds in a minute, kand managed to keep most of them on a paper plate at 100 yards. Grandpa won a ton of money on that, he referred to it as "The Winter The Drinks Were Free."

coffeecup: I did reference WWI about comparing the 3 rifles. The WWII reference was concerning my M1 Carbine which was produced in the second to last month of the war.

I do believe, were I old enough to have participated in WWII, I'd have preferred the LE rather than the M1 Rifle. But that's just me.

Just to be clear. I fully understand the MI Rifle was semi-auto. I just feel I would have been well served by the LE and would have preferred it. In RVN I used the M-16 and an Ithaca shotgun. I definitely would NOT have preferred a LE in that environment.

went to a yard sale this weekend..here is a box in almost new condition...yea, just the box...so i open it...there is the stock..hummmm...i pick it up an can feel an hear the parts inside...

then i start thinking about the BATF an how sneakie they are in arizona...so i take a 10X loupe to it...not one tracking device...

final proof..take the cute little thing out in the desert an run a box through it...it kept jammin...hummmm.
changed clips...the one in it was FILTHY...
ran 10 rounds no problem...hits the target...
so i get a five dollar rifle for the trunk of my car...
now i need scope mounts...i have a 1 inch to mount...

the british used the smle in large numbers in WWII jungles...in a carbine version...effective.

An M-14! Now you're talking. I'm afraid you said the magic words. Had never fired a gun of any type before entering basic at Ft. Polk. Trained on the M-14. I've heard it said that a man falls in love with his first rifle. Definitely true for me. Only 6 of us qualified expert with it. I was in love. Now that is a rifle I would use anytime, any place and most defintely today in the sandbox.

I always thought those LE Jungle carbines were way cool. Have always regretted failing to get one when they were being advertised.

I got to keep the M-14 thru AIT (at Ord). Next stop, Ft. Knox, we got switched over to the M-16 and SSNs. Even got to fire the M-14 on full auto in AIT. I liked it but the Army didn't.

Except for the month after boot camp when we went through ITR and carried an M-1, I carried an M-14 for my entire enlistment. Qualified three times while active duty, all three times Expert.

Jerry, Gringo: Could be mistaken, but I am beginning to sense a feeling of shared accomplishment at expert qualification with the mighty M-14.

I know I am biased, not at all objective, but dang it we did something deserving of a bit of pride. We all did a lot of other things but the M-14 was an early step on the road. Congrats to all who carried the M-14 regardless of qualification.

As well there should be. It served me and countless others well. I thought (and still think) it is a great jungle carbine.

Concerning early problems with the M-16: virtually every issued rifle-including the M-1 had teething problems. Also, initially McNamara allowed use of improper powder for the ammo.
