I just need to show off these Canal Streets I just got from a fellow AAPKer.

Especially the First Year Set 2004 # 157

Ken, those are some sweet knives!
I took a few more pics of some of mine today.

1st- 2006 Red/White/Blue Mica Pearl Trapper, 1 of 50.
2nd- Moon Pie Trapper, Dk. Amber Stag Bone, 440C Steel.
3rd- Caramel Aberdeen Jigged Bone Muskrat, 14-4CrMo steel, #001 of 400 (?)
4th- 2006 Amber Jigged Bone Trapper, D2 steel

I am drooling over those CS knives.

I have a question about a description. What is a "Moon Pie" trapper? The only visible difference that I can discern is the size of the rear bolster. Is that the reason for the "Moon Pie" designation?

By the way, I love moon pies and RC Cola! PaPa used to take us grandkids to the Carbon Mercantile and Texaco station and buy us a moon pie for a quarter and an RC for a dime! Those were the days, now!

I may buy a moon pie trapper just because I like that memory so much ...

You're right about the size of the bolsters being the reason for 'moonpie'.

Those werethe days, weren't they? Come to think of it, I have a couple of moonpies in the pantry right now.

Boys y'all got me to thinkin about RC Cola and it dawned on me I haven't seen any in years. I personally never developed a taste for it so it's not something I would have missed right off, but now I'm wondering if they still make it. Anybody know for sure?

Cowboy, I have not seen any RC in stores in my area in years. I wonder if they have scaled back their distribution area. If I may ask, what state are you in?

They are not that uncommon around here in West Texas ... In fact I may head out to the 24-hour Super-WallyWorld and grab me a six-pack ...

I clicked on their web site but did not get any useful information as far as their distribution network. The company was sold in 2001 and I suspect it's been that long since I've seen RC or any of the associated drinks(diet rite, upper 10) for sale here in Kentucky.

Now that I realize I can't get one, danged if I don't want one.

My Sweetie-Pie and I went to breakfast this morning at the local Cracker Barrel on the highway. Good coffee and biscuits with gravy ...

Anyway, in their General Store area, they had several boxes of Moon Pies for sale. It looks like Moon Pie has gone back to retro-style packaging. It really took me back in time!

I was going to buy a couple of boxes, but then I realized my Wranglers are fitting too dang tight anyway, and besides, I am saving all my spare change for a CS Moon Pie Trapper!

Just finished reading "Lonesome Dove". You need to correct your tag line under your name....It was Boliver, the first cook, who said the line about stroking the wife / knife every night.

Po Campo was the second cook they picked up on the trial.

Got to agree with the praises of the Canal Street knives. I bought a whittler for my dad last year - very nice knife. I was under the impression that some of the ex-Schrade (USA) guys are involved in the Canal Street operation?

And, since you noticed, the question and the quote are from the movie, not the book. In the book, McMurtry does not have Newt directly question Bol, but mentions that he had asked Bol why he sharpened it every night, since he never cut anything with it. The old bandit's answer:

Comment on the red stag.
At first I was not to thrilled with the looks of them. With the red color not being even and the white bone showing in places. After I had one in my hand and look at it closer, I changed my feelings about them. The white bone gives them even more apeel to what they real are. The red may trigger my fellings for a RedHead? So if any of you get the chance to hold a Canal Street Red Stag in your hand Please take the time to do so.
