All About Pocket Knives

Scored a real nice Frontier Stockman!

Still hunting for a nice one.

I recently picked up a Frontier 435 in Colorado -- best vacation souvenir yet. When I got it, the scales were dried and cracked, with a big chip out of the shoulder. I fixed the cracks with epoxy and a good oil, and patched up the chip with a turquoise/chrysocolla inlay. The blade has some flat spots but I'm working those out. The knife is older than me and I'm looking forward to putting it to use again.

This thread has been really valuable in learning the history of my knife!

Here's one I bought several months ago on the auction site for about the cost of a fast food meal, upsized of course.

It was nearly immaculate when I got it, but it's since sliced a lot of fruit, as you can tell from the clip blade.

Back to the topic, here's another Frontier I received today from the auction site, for less than the cost of a Rough Rider. It's the same size as the one I posted above, at 3-1/4 inches.

Click the pic to enlarge. I bought it because my young son wants to carry a knife like Dad's. This way, on the weekends and when out and about, we can both carry them. He's definitely excited.

The thought of you and your son carrying like knives move those from good knives to great knives. Happy for the both of you.

This afternoon, my trip to the post office produced a group or lot of pocket knives that I had purchased. This particular pocket knife, just one out of the group or lot of knives, was NOT the target of the purchase. But, it did turn out to be a keeper. It is a FRONTIER, THE ALL AMERICANS, AA-41, single blade, single tang stamp, 4" closed, lockback pocket knife. The tang stamp says "FRONTIER (curved or arched downward) - AA-41 U.S.A. - STAINLESS (curved or arched upward). It has so-so snap, but no blade wobble. Overall, it is in VERY GOOD condition. It is definitely worthy of some carry time.
I gave it a minor cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

This is my only frontier knife, after getting it I hunted high and low online but couldnt find one with the scrimshaw panels, so the original owner must of added them, he did a great job

A few months ago this pocket knife arrived in a large group or lot of pocket knives that I purchased. I did NOT buy the group or lot to obtain this particular pocket knife. But, it definitely turned out to be a keeper. It is an IMPERIAL FRONTIER, pattern 4135, three blades, two springs, two tang stamps, a blade etch, 3 1/4" closed, "STOCKMAN" pattern or style, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp reads "FRONTIER" (curved) with powder horn stamped symbol. The main blade back tang stamp reads "4135 - IMPERIAL - STAINLESS - USA" The main blade etch reads "FRONTIER Double - Eagle" with logo. It is in EXCELLENT condition. It needed no cleaning, I just wiped it off, took some pictures and here it is.

The last picture shows the FRONTIER AA-31 paired up with my previously posted, FRONTIER AA-41.

Another superb addition, Skip! That's one I'd buy because it has a distinctive and different shield. If my knife budget wasn't gone, I'd ask you to send some of your knife hunting luck to Michigan!

The main blade etch says "Dairymen (over) Safety Award" It has a so-so snap, but no blade wobble. Overall, it is in VERY GOOD condition. It is definitely worthy of some pocket time. Here's a 4431 that my 13-year-old son bought at a steam engine show for $7. It was completely rusted. I wish that I had taken a pic before he started cleaning it. After lots of simple green, multiple cycles in the sonic cleaner, and judicious applications of sandpaper and Flitz, he ended up with a great user!
You'll see a nick in the clip blade. I presume that was due to rust. It looks like it's made to strip wire. My son sold it to dear old dad for a little more than he paid for it. I carry and use it nearly every day these days. Hard to go wrong with the 8OT pattern.
Edited to add the following: Below pic, I cleaned up the blades some with some additional judicious sanding to get rid of those obvious sanding lines, and I modified the spey to more of a pen blade shape so that the top of the spey doesn't block the nail nick of sheepsfoot.

Found this by the creek while on a walk a few months back and only recently thought to look up stuff on it- ended up finding this forum! this Is my first (and currently only) pocket knife so I don't know much but I think it'll be fun to find out more

Well congrats on the super cool find! And it's a lock back too! That's great! Somebody is surely missing that one!

I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed so I'll let some of the more knowledgeable members here tell you more about your new knife.

Added to my pile this past weekend. Frontier Jr. stockman 4131, Frontier folding lock blade, AA-51 stainless with belt sheath. My first All American.
