Thanks. Great knives knifegirl. Just a little info on Luther Burbank. He was a famous American horticulturalist who lived 1849-1926. He was best known for developing new hybrid plants, especially fruits and flowers. I think your knife is from the 1950s-60s. Here it is in a catalogue. I hope this is of interest.

Here is an old brass handled Kabar. The back tang reads Union Cut. Co. Olean, NY U.S.A.

While not as big as the "Mercator, Black Cat" this Mercator is a heck of a simple but very strongly made knife. It also takes and keeps a very good edge. I dig it out and carry it every once in awhile. ::nod:: Dale

It is! Locks up tight both ways and even has a half stop. Kind of reminds of this Leek I been using in a way.
I meant to look up the time frame also, but had it on my machine and I am in one of those ADD moods. :lol: Just all over the place.......

I believe they went out of business by 1953 ::hmm::

I believe your knife was made circa 1920s-30s. The pattern is pre WWII. :) s-k

I was given this from my journeyman when he retired in 1978 or thereabouts ,Dominic received this during a shutdown @that mill before ww2 :shock: WOW now I know why I got back into collecting knives ::tu:: He also gave me a Colonial -prov RI pat. pend work knife.On the other side it states PAPERMAKERS,FELTS&JACKETS,OTHER SIDE OF MAIN BLADE 752.

Top napanoch knife company, next one honk falls knife company napanoch. honk falls took over napanoch building after they closed. last one ulster dwight divine & sons. i guess schrade made it for them.check miller bro's posting
