I was happy to find this little Empire with perfect pearl recently!

It happened again!! I welcome back this old thread, and your nice Pearl knife, AKC!!
I love it when someone takes the time to search what's been done, and posts another knife. It is wonderful for future research, if all the Empires are in one thread!

I didn't know what to think when I found this one. I thought upnorth owned ALL of them. Sorry about the lousy picture. New camera, new photo program, same old stupid brain.
Empire, 3&3/8" closed. 3 blades,1 file, all un-sharpened. Both handles stamped sterling. Both handles embossed, National Fire Hartford. I'll keep working on this. Hopefully I can get a better picture. I'll also try to get a better one of the MOP page turner with the abalone inlay in the handle.

Here's a little crown pen I picked up about two weeks ago;

This knife just knocked my socks off! Never sharpened, I think it's the best Empire (subcontract) I've ever seen!! Not cleaned, almost all of its original finish! Better than I had hoped from Ebay!!
Empire made Diamond Edge marked knives for Shapleigh before WWI, but I haven't pinned this one down yet.

CCBill, thats a nice Empire, silver is one of my favorite knife handles and you dont see nice ornate ones like that too often

Upnorth, I cant ignore the first one you showed recently, that crown is a cool pattern! And the big one is phenominal, probably one of a kind in that condition! Quite a find.

Nice dog-leg pattern, ebony handle.

The owner sure liked this knife, and got a lot of use out of it!

I love that shield! I don't think I've ever seen a bomb shield with such sharp, crisp corners as that.

I see that someone has posted anew to the "Shields" thread, too. If it wasn't you posting this shield, please do so. I'm about to check it out.

I've never seen that particular shield before on any maker's knife.

There some old knives that have a certain intangible quality that makes me want to use them and forget all other newer knives. I guess it is something in the design and in the F&F that you just know it is quality and that it will fit in your hand like an extension of your body.

That old Empire is such a knife. I understand why the previous owner used it up.
What a magnificent knife! And the shield is "da Bom!"

It is a very attractive shield, that is what drew me to it, even though the condition is poor I still have a place for it in my collection. I don`t recall ever seeing a shield exactly like this on a knife by another manufacturer.

There are a lot of interesting shields that only occur on Empire knives. That's a nice one, M.B.

What does the stamp on the scissors look like?

I've got two pairs of scissors. The one with the screw/stop is for cutting buttonholes!
M.B. they have an oval stamp, nearly identical on each pair.

I like them so much that I have a bunch of jigged bone "junk" knives.
These are knives or parts of knives that that have unique, unusual, & beautiful bone handles. Some have no blades, some have the handle broken off one side, and IIRC there are a couple that only have part of the handles left. The bone is gorgeous and I hope someday to be able to reproduce some of the jigging patterns, at least that what I tell myself.
I think the truth is that I just like the look & feel of the old jigged bone!
