Joe, I am thinking that is either abalone or a celluloid imitation.

Thank you, Garry.
They have a specific name for it but I cannot remember what it's called.
I don't think it's celluloid. Some other material.

Hopefully ya'll don't mind me re reviving this.

The whole Bertram / C. Bertram / shield - no shield / light box - dark box thing is just dizzying. And since I just snagged a little Hen & Rooster Stag Whittler off the bay, I figured I'd post it up and see if I got a legit H&R, ... or a turd.

Honestly, I love the thing, great fit and finish, half stops, and just a good feel to it.

My Hen & Rooster 212 Mini Trappers.

The box that the Blue Bone 212BLB came in clearly shows "Made in Solingen, Germany." The tang stamps show "Bertram Cutlery" as well as "Solingen Germany"

This Stag 212DS has "C. Bertram" etched (not stamped) on the pile side tang and also shows "Spain" and "Solingen Stainless" which, I believe, simply means that the knife was assembled in Spain using German steel, but not actually made in Spain (that's just what I have heard, so don't know if true).

All three have shields, but the shield on the C. Bertram is a different style, color and orientation.

Great looking knife. Looks like it's very similar to a Case Mini Copperhead to my eyes. Congrats.

Beautiful stag on that one ! And the blue bone is nice, and I usually don't go for solid color bone handles. I'm amazed at all the variations you've shown. Mine is stamped C.Bertram, but my chicken is oriented horizontally like yours. I'm getting to the point where trying to figure this puzzle out is making my head hurt lol. Hen & Roosters, Buck Creek, and German Bull seem to be a crap shoot. Can't really tell what ya got till it arrives.

Only one I've ever had. Bought it mail-order in 2000, Paid no more than $25 in the box. Beautiful stag. Blade etched ""World's Finest Cutlery In The New Millennium" Rear of tang stamped Bertram Cutlery, 301-DS.

Snagged another 212DS (3½" Stag Mini Trapper). This one has thicker stag than I normally prefer but the unusually gnarly and colorful mark side stag sealed the deal...love that gnarl! ::tu::

This one was a total surprise when I won it on eBay because I just happened to throw in a fairly low bid in passing...never thought I would end up winning it especially considering the way knife prices have been lately...and for stag even more. But, that's exactly why I throw in those casual bids, you just never know how it will turn out. Usually, I don't win, but this time I got lucky. :D
