Re: SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON
These 2 are not exactly 'new' to me but i just came across them while sorting through my 'old USA knives'. 3 3/4" 2 blade jack, 622634 ? with saber ground master blade, and 3 1/2" 2 blade jack with Washington bolsters and etch "Hickory Whittler".
Hickory is quite a hard wood so i think this name was chosen to imply it is a strong knife able to cut even the hardest wood.
Both have been used but they are still very fine & attractive knives.

Re: SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON
I just purchased this beauty along with several others from the Tom kalcevic collection. It is actually on page 30 of his book. I love that the red is still preserved around the pocketeze and the pinched bolsters I would love to see a thread about others who have obtained some of his collection. I am also new to this forum and terrible with technology so if I have done anything in error regarding this post I apologize. Kevin

Re: SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON
Kevin, they made that knife as a two blade and a three blade Whittler.
I had a two blade in excellent condition, but no longer own it.

Re: SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON
I very recently came into possession of this advertising, fob/key ring style of pocket knife. The company being advertised,
"THE BANNER BUGGY CO., ST. LOUIS", existed from 1880 to 1921. There is a TON of very interesting information on-line about this company's history and some fantastic images. It measures just a hair over 3" closed. This pocket knife needed cleaning. I cleaned it, I took some pictures and here it is.

Very nice.
There was a similar one on Ebay a few weeks ago; don’t remember the company advertised.
They were made to hang on a button on a pair of bib overalls.

Re: SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON
Thank you Charlie.
Here is an ad that I purchased showing an almost identical pocket knife being
used on a key ring. The ad is from the February 15, 1923 issue of "PRINTERS' INK."

Re: SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON
According to Charlie, ROBESON "possibly" manufactured or at least
had a hand in, the manufacturing process of the STEVENSON 45,
MIL-K style pocket knives. I just very recently acquired this one.
Charlie's STEVENSON 45 information:

So yours is a early version, very nice. Didn’t realize that they were made by Robeson.
Your piece from the buggy Co. Is pretty cool. Never heard about hanging a knife off your Coveralls , that’s interesting.

Re: SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON
Actually, I think the OP knife is the later version, as it conforms to the requirements made of all manufacturers to produce a utility knife with the same blades and configuration.
The earlier version, with the bail stamped , STEVENSON U.S.A., has the proprietary Robeson short screwdriver, patent punch and can-opener/cap-lifter blades and of course, a spear master blade.
There has been some discussion that ”Stevenson“ was a manufacturer that wished to produce something for the war effort and they re-tooled to produce these knives and Robeson simply supplied the blades for the knives. I cannot argue that point one way or the other.
There was a company in Rochester named Stevenson that produced abrasives to be used in tumbler machines. They had been in business since prior to WWII. Did they supply abrasives to Robeson? I don’t know. Did they produce the Stevenson knives? I don’t know that either. They never bothered to answer my formal letter seeking that information. Perhaps, there is now, no one that knows the answers to those questions.
Interestingly, the bail on the OP knife is mounted differently than on the two I own. The stamps on the bails on my knives are on the backside of the knives. Possibly, that was a hit or miss kind of thing. If so, about 50% will be one way or the other.
