Now we have a Colonial thread,Show'em

Colonial Knife was incorporated in 1926 by three brothers; Antonio, Domenic, & Fredrick Paolantonio. It grew to become one of the largest pocket knife manufacturers in the US during the 1960s. The company shut down in 1998, but was back into production under the Colonial Cutlery International Corporation in 2001. Colonial Cutlery International, Inc. brand is the imported line of knives and tools while the U.S.A.- made products fall under the Colonial Knife brand.

Your very welcome sir, and thanks for the compliment! ::handshake::

I am just glad to be here for all of you great knife enthusiats...
I guess when grandpa Fred named me Robert when I was born, maybe he knew I would be the one man, a cutler at heart, who would be the one to give the world answers to the Colonial questions of the future... ::smirk:: ::smirk::

With so many followers and Colonial collectors around, I guess I'm important to the industry since I'm the only one with most of the answer's...(98% of the time anyway).

For this I am humbled and grateful...Thank you people! ::ds:: ::ds::

Good eye, PigSticker! Yes the bail holes on the electricians knife ARE filled
with putty. ::nod:: Question is WHY??? ::shrug::
And NO, there is not a stamp on the fish knife. Although the knives look to
be different sizes - it's a camera illusion. There actually the same dimensions.
The tip of the Coke Bottle hunter has been re-profiled too. (Look at the blade clip. It is straight! ::nod:: )

VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!

It has come to my attention that a long time knife collector, who shall not be named
at this time, had the "dissatisfaction" of contacting Colonial Knife Corporation, you know that Colonial site that sells all imports. ::barf::

This kind gentleman contacted me because when he called Colonial Corp., and he spoke
to MR. STEVEN PAOLANTONIO, PRESIDENT OF COLONIAL CORP., asking about an old Colonial knife. This nice collector told me and I quote, "STEVEN PAOLANTONIO, PRESIDENT OF COLONIAL KNIFE CORPORATION, COULDN'T HAVE BEEN MORE DISRESPECTFUL TO HIM!!!

I can't even begin to explain how "shaken" I was to here this story. This is a very poor way to handle a Colonial Knife collector!!! Horrible and totally unacceptable and very embarassing for me.. ::mdm:: ::mdm::

Please refer any questions at all to me personally about Colonial knives any time you like.
You will always be treated with kindness and respect at all times!! ::handshake::
Please forgive my cousin's foolishness and please don't let this be in any shape or form
a reflection on me and my book.. ::pray:: ::pray::
Robert A. Paolantonio, the ORIGINAL Colonial Knife Company, Inc. ::tu:: ::tu::

BTW, this gentleman has his book on it's way!!!

I thought he only worked in the office. ::shrug::
Or is he writing about his Colonial Knife Corp. company?

No Joe, NOT at all!! Steven insulted a customer when this customer called him about some knife information....
The man he insulted IS writting a book and wanted some background about old Colonial Knive's...since this man contacted me and bought one of MY books, he's going to refere
Colonial questions to me and is going to put ME in his book, NOT Steven!! ::groove::

This nice gentleman was terribly "DISRESPECTED" by Steven personally, and this man found me very helpfull and kind.. So, Colonial Knife Corp. has lost a customer and I have gained a new friend and customer.... ::tu:: ::tu::
With any luck this nice gentlemam will come here at AAPK and tell the story himself!!
Got it now?? OK pal... ::handshake::

And hey Scott, I'll check out the guy who's selling my RAP's and please send me the link if you can..Thanks buddy..

OK, here's the whole story behind the encounters I had in 2012 with the current Colonial Knife Company.

I'm in the home stretch of writing a book called "200 More Scout Knives" that extends the great work of Joe Kerr's "600 Scout Knives" which was published in 1998. My book will cover Official BSA and GSUSA folding knives from 1999-2013. I initially contacted CKC because I was looking for a better specimen of a 3-bladed Cub Scout Utility knife (#1883) than the one I had in my personal collection. I was told that they had plenty of stock but they could only distribute to the BSA but that they were going to be with the BSA buyers at a trade show in a few weeks and they make the inquiry on my behalf for the book. Months passed following the show and I finally decided to call and was treated in a less than professional manner with zero support extended for my book. At this point I decided to cease all communication and to represent CKC in my book without manufacturers input...........until I met Bobby!

If you haven't already done so, treat yourself to a copy of his book "My Family Business". The manufacturing detail, factory floorplans and family history is a compelling read. I learned more about the art of cutlery than I ever knew before. Without question Bobby is the most qualified manufacturing resource that I have encountered in my 40+ years of knife collecting and I am proud to have him represent CKC in my book.

End of story.

Check out these old "sliders". I never knew they were made by Colonial...

I haven't bought a single one - they have ALL been acquired through buying
knife lots - every one of them!!!

They have 7 digit phone No.s so they can't be dated back farther than that.
(can't remember what the date is when they changed the No.s to 7 digits ::dang:: )

EDIT: for pics

Yes sir Joe; these are Colonials!! They were really produced primarily for Ambassador, or Embassy Manufacturing, my dad's ad specialty line and the numbers were for "Ad Specialty" and were called "sampler's"...These are like the ones in that sampler kit you showed last week, R#252...if there are other #'s, let me see and I might be able to explain in more detail... ::hmm:: ::hmm::

FYI folks...If you haven't already, please visit www.iknifecollector.com, it's a great site with lots of interesting people and collectors!! ::handshake:: ::handshake::
