Finally snagged one of the new Queen 84 pattern knives on eBay. Dealers retail on the Carbon Fiber model generally runs to around $90; I got this one at auction for $68. I'll admit I wasn't immediately attracted to the modern tactical look of this knife. Before I had really examined it, I thought it was a flipper style with a liner lock; but, it's actually a slipjoint with no locking mechanism. Blade is Bohler M390, liners and hardware are all stainless steel. Closed length = 4.5" and it weighs in at a hefty 5.6 oz (that's 0.35 lbs!!! ). Although it has a pocket clip (and a pretty cool one at that ), it's much too big and heavy for comfortable pocket carry IMO. In fact, this beast has the heft and feel of a piece of industrial machinery.....almost feels like something that would require a heavy equipment operator's license to legally use!! It's definitely a departure from the traditional Queens I collect, but I gotta hand it to whoever currently owns Queen for stepping into the 21st century and producing this very well made modern knife. Best of all, it's Made in USA!!! Queen logo is stamped, not printed or etched, on both the blade tang and the pocket clip.

Almost makes me want to stray away from the old traditional patterns, almost but not quite.

Yeah, it’s a decent looking knife and definitely well made. The only reason I got it was because I wanted to experience a modern USA made Queen. I have one of the modern China made Queens and it’s a pretty good knife, so I had to know how a modern USA made Queen stacked up in comparison. Turns out it was not even close; the USA made knife is much better in every respect—it was also four to five times the price! But it was still under $100, which is pretty darn decent, IMO.

But, despite the quality build, it’s still not enough to cause me to lose interest in or stop collecting the old traditional patterns like my other newest Queen, this single blade Rams Horn Trapper

Just got this Queen Barlow today. The main blade was loose so I installed a new pin.
It's rough, but love the smooth old handles and wicked sharp carbon steel

Nice Queen Barlow I found today at a Flea Market, I believe it dates to 1951-1957

I agree. It's already helped me install 23 oak stair spindles and corner trim on the bannister.

Put new blades on my queen Barlow

My newest Queen is another single blade trapper. Slender and elegant, I call this pattern a "Slimline Trapper" but I've seen it called a "Farmer's Jack" and a "Utility Knife" as well. The highly figured Curly Zebra wood Queen used is probably as iconic as their ACSB. The F&F and W&T are just as one would expect to find on a pre-DFC Queen knife.

Wow, congratulations, that's what I call a HOK!
That stamp I believe was called the "big Q" used from 1945 through 1955.
Those Winterbottom handles are beautiful.
I believe you might be able to file the kicks on those blades and allow the tips to be below the frame if you want to carry it without getting your fingers speared. Looks like the nail nicks will still be accessible, maybe.
