Good morning to everyone,
Praying everyone has a blessed and enjoyable weekend.
Big Homer not sure if I took the bait and ran with it because I am the NewB on the block?
Either way this is the ingredient that always sparks a great debate.
I’m glad I took the bait and I have a new product to try DUKES mayonnaise.
Thank you very much
Steve

Re: First Cup Diner!
Good morning. Yeah I too wonder about some of the AAPK guys and gals that just disappear. It appears we up here are in for some fantastic weather for a stretch into next week. It sure is a beautiful morning, calm and sunny. My birds are going to want to out picking bugs but I'm not sure I want them out until I can figure out what happened to my two Silver laced Wyondots unless I'm around and I have a full plate of work for today. Jane will be around but she doesn't like to spend the day out back with my chickens even if I ask nice, go figure. Yesterday evening while watching by birds,I sat out back and carved two more sticks/canes and actually got one varnished and the other one close. Tomorrow we'll hit the two cemeteries where Jane"s family is buried and on Monday I'll probably attend the Memorial Day service near our home where my parents, grand parents and sister are buried. I do need to get with the director of the cemetery and purchase a couple plots for Jane and I. I'll be 100 in 22 years and I've heard that the last 20 years goes by really quickly. I'm not sure where the past 78 went. With that sour note, I gotta run, or rather walk. I don't run on purpose any more. I trip over that stupid cane. Have a great Friday and memorial day weekend. ____Dave

Re: First Cup Diner!
When I was younger I heard of this law in Wisconsin. Im not sure if it was actually true, or maybe still is, but it was a margarine ban. In order to protect our dairy industry restaurants weren't allowed to serve counterfeit butter, only the real thing. I have this on my mind because I think we could have a real talk today in our society about doing the same thing again.
For counterfeit mayonnaise a.k.a. Miracle Whip.
Any who, I've got 3 sick boys still and am myself afflicted with some kinda upper respiratory thing. We busted hump all day on Wednesday to put together a fun party for my wife. Everything went well except for the arborist store where we were going to make terrariums closed without notice three hours early that day, even though I had called two days before to confirm and verify. My wife instead just brought my oldest to the library while myself and the twins ran around town picking up dinner and the cake. It's a 49 dollar cake and i happily drop the last dollar in their tip jar after handing them a $50, it's worth at least twice that. After presents and a piñata bashing it was an early night for the boys. Yesterday we settled in for a day of watching tv, which we never do, to rest up. Today could be more of the same. No more fevers but it's a ca-cough-any (get it?) of runny noses and the strange sounds young ones make when struggling with excess mucous. The sun is shining today though, so I'll pack 2/3 of them into the stroller to get some disinfecting sun shine and charge our solar panels.
Hope you all have exciting and memorable days.

I texted with Zoogirl a while back and she said life had kinda got in the way and knives were less of a priority. She was doing fine just on a different path.bighomer wrote: ↑Fri May 23, 2025 11:57 am Morning folks, 48 was the official low, suppose to top out around 70. I'm a stubborn old cuss and it's miracle whip only for me. I can't gag down mayonnaise and it's been so long since I've had any Dukes I don't remember if I liked it or not. A shadow memory says I come down on the side of Miracle Whip. Had to get my 2 cents in.

Mornin' Y'all
Up a bit too early after a sorta restless sleep. Nothing new there.
Wife has gone to visit with a pal of ours down in south Georgia, so I'm large and in charge till Monday.
Since I'm up I think I'll travel to a trade day about 2 hours north. Have not been in 3 years! I have found
a couple nice knives there in the past, but I expect like all other market areas the prices will be too much for my cheap self.
Still, it's a way to waste a Saturday ...
As for the resurrected condiment vote, I come down squarely on the side of .... NEITHER !
Pot's ready, yawl have a good 'un

Re: First Cup Diner!
Good morning Chris and all who follow you into the diner. I too didn't sleep for beans last night with achy kegs and wife not using her C-Pap so I was trying to nudge her enough for her to sleep more quietly without waking her. When I finally got to sleep during the last few hours of the night I woke to the front entry of the house empty of everything that usually is sitting there all moved into the living room and Jane, who got up before me had found a mess where our larger dog Gypsy had gotten sick. Nobody is in a good mood. Looks like a good day to spend at the cemeteries cleaning up the grass that has crept in over the headstones and putting out flags with Jane's brother and nephew. We'll finish up that with a meal at our favorite Chinese restaurant. Have a good Memorial Day weekend and be safe out there if you are traveling.________Dave

Good Mornin', almost late today.
Started a post about 5:30 and everybody in the house was up, Miss Joy's 2 sisters and one of her brothers, almost like going to the circus! Too much cackling to concentrate on a post!
Already made a trip to town for a prescription and some ice cream and noticed the bee man is unloading a bunch of hives in the field down by the little wet weather creek called Bee Branch. He pays rent with honey.
Taco salad is on the noon meal menu. Always enjoy that as a meal.
Brother-in-law headed on west to visit his daughter and grands for the day.
Going to lay low and do a lot of listening today.
Y'all have a good one!

Mornin' Y'all
Made the trip to the trade day yesterday, almost got rained out. Smaller crowd than I expected for a holiday weekend,'
sellers and hunters. The usual knife guys were there, though, and I picked up an old 3-dot Case lockback.
Decoration at the cemetery where my grandparents are buried this morning. I suppose my 2 aunts will be there;

Re: First Cup Diner!
Good morning all. Memorial Day weekend to me now means that our little town of 9,000 full-time residents swells X6 for the next 12 weeks. Patience is needed on the roads, in the stores and most certainly at the restaurants. We strategically plan our trips both on and off the island to avoid the masses as much as possible. Were it not for the influx of visitors, our tax base would be significantly higher so we appreciate the beach-goers.
Rain today but it’s Motorsport Sunday so who cares

Wampus is awol still, old cat is spreading the love I reckon.
Got a little trip planned, one of the bosses former work buddies makes homemade sourdough bread and we are heading over to Gallatin to get some, about a 50 mile round trip hope it's worth it.
Slept in this morning and the boss wanted waffles, link sausage and bacon what the boss wants is my command.

Mornin' to all the folks here in the Diner. The Bride and I just got in from Meetin' and she's in the knitchen stiring up some ham and eggs for breakfast. Out temperature is already up to 87º so I feel sure it will be another hot one today. I can hardly wait to wolf down some eggs and ham so I can get into my nap.
Hope you all have a blessed day and particular blessings to those families whose son or daughter, husband or wife gave all.

Late again to the 1st cup diner.
Been nonstop since 5:30 this morning, saw the company off around 7 and then got ready for church. Home from church, still had ingredients for our recipe for taco salad for dinner, now it's time for our Sunday afternoon nap!
Missed the forecasted rain, again! Just a few drops and it was gone around 7 this morning.
Y'all enjoy this long weekend.

Good Mornin' and let us be mindful of the importance of Memorial Day.
72⁰ this morning, still dry. Things are back to normal here at Starvation Plantation since Miss Joy's siblings went back home. A nephew and his wife and 2 sons are supposed to be visiting sometime this week. They too are from central Florida and at last report were visiting with Miss Joy's 2 brothers who live in Blairsville, GA. Headed our way soon, we suppose.
Need to do a little watering this morning before it gets hot. The "skeeters" were tough yesterday afternoon before dark, the ol' big ones with white bands on their legs.
Coffee has been served.
Y'all be blessed today.

Good morning. I'll head over to the local cemetery for the services later this morning. If I sound critical at times about someone trashing our country or critical about crooked politicians existing at all, or anyone that is steering or promoting our Republic toward any ideology other than that our forefathers meant it to be, I do it with the confidence that my family has earned the right to speak out. We are a 5 generation US Air Force family having served during WW!, WW2, Viet Nam, or the current conflict in the Middle East that my grand son has been over to several times serving in the Air Guard. Grandpa and Dad were in the Army Air Corp during the two world wars, I was in the Air Force during Viet Nam and my son did 11 years in the Air Force and 13 years in the Air Guard. Jane's family had members in all 4 branches of the military and covered all the major wars and her Dad was in the Army and a POW in WW2 in Germany. I sense some weight behind me when I speak out when I see someone trying to undo all the freedoms we earned and it breaks my heart to see some of the younger generations thinking some socialist system of government is a better idea or that we as a nation can succeed without guidance from above. I will also listen to someone with different ideas than mine if they have some skin in the game, but don't expect to bend from what I believe. I have a great deal of admiration for all those laid to rest in the cemetery I'll be visiting today. Each and every one of them gave me a level of honor and service to our country that I strive to reach both in their public and private lives and their service to God and may God continue to bless their memories to all the lives they touched during their lives.____Dave

Good Morning Everyone!
I haven't posted in the last few days because I was in the hospital. Last week I was having episodes of my heart going into Afib with a pulse of upwards of 171, chest pain and pain in my jaw and left arm. Even though I was sure it was a heart attack the ER doctor said that it wasn't, but kept me for more tests and observation. One nurse told me they were afraid I was going to have a stroke with my pulse going so high. They started me on some new meds and I'm home now with my pulse back down around 58. After that I just slept for a couple of days. Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend, God bless and have a very good day.....
