Absolutely!
They are knives made by Camillus.

Camillus was known as the "Knifemaker's Knifemaker."
They made more knives for other companies than any other company!

Quick Steel wrote:It is my understanding these were made by Camillus for AG Russell. These were his original Texas Ranger knives before the current China made series. When beginning the first run in 2001 about 100 knives had the incorrect start date of the Texas Rangers. I bought both the error and corrected knives. The F&F on these knives is excellent, superb really. I hope it is acceptable to show these knives here though they do not bear the Camillus mark.
You could start a thread showing this lockback pattern under several names including their own ::tu::

That's a fine looking rope knife, Vit.

This came in yesterday's mail. It's newer than my other Camillus 69 and doesn't have the gimping nor pinned on handles, which is kind of disappointing but it's in NOS factory fresh condition.

How cool is that. My eyes have been opened and my preconceptions burst since joining this forum.

Makes me wonder if Ka-Bar marketed a Camillus made 72 pattern.

Yeah but if I find one (like the white handled 72 scout) I'm not paying $131.37 for it. Can you believe that. Yes it was in excellent condition and yes you don't see on but once in a blue moon but Holy Paid Too Much Batman.

This is my only Camillus knife..It looks a little like my Schrade 863. KG

Looks a lot like your Schrade 863.

Ken, that's because the Camillus #72s, Schrade #863s and Ulster #63s are all just alike with only subtle differences. (Imperial also made one but I don't know a pattern number) Small clip blade profile is different. Matchstrike pulls on Camillus and not on Schrade. Handle pins closer to the bolsters on the Schrades, Imperials and Ulsters.

Yours is one of the 197x - 198x era knives. Factory fresh with a box (maybe not the box but at least a box). How nice. If you're only going to have one Camillus, that's the one to have. JMO

Hi Jerry, ::handshake::
I had never seen a Schrade 863 until you said I should have one in my collection; so I found one (New in its' marked tube).
You also told me about the Camillus, so I found one of them too.
Thank You for the tip on the 863, it's a nice knife... KG

ps: I used someone's image of a 863, my 863 is mint in its' marked tube.

Now are you going to complete the set with an Ulster 63 and maybe an Imperial? Of course if you get those, you will also need a Remington R-14, a Craftsman 9494 and a Wards Powr-Kraft. Then there are the Boy Scout models of most of those and the one that's just stamped USA.

jerry, have you got a stanley-SL6???....comes in a blister pack,on the packaging it says-united cutlery brands, sevierville, tenn.,1999.-black delrin handles with the stanley shield, looks exactly like a camillus #72, and someone told me they were actually built by camillus!!..... ::shrug:: ...........

John, you are definitely the man. THANK YOU!! Didn't even know it existed. There's one more I'll have to look for. Just saved a search for it in eBay.

Did a google search on it and found one in WorthPoint. The plain long pull and sawcut Delrin handles look like Schrade. The distance to the bolsters for the handle pins looks Camillus. I'd have to get one and compare the secondary clip blade profile to be sure.

If anyone has one they are willing to sell, let me know and maybe we can make a deal.

"New in the original box direct from the manufacturer

STANLEY MaxEdge WHITTLER, 3 5/8in. closed, 440 stainless steel clip, coping and small clip blades, black dupont delrin super durable handles, nickel silver bolsters, Stanley inlay shield. model-SL6"

Hope ya getcha one!

jerry, the handles on mine aren't sawcut, it's smooth black delrin, but it has a textured finish like fake leather or cloth, i don't really know how to describe it. after looking at the knife again, it has "stanley on the master blade, which is flat ground, both sides, match striker pull,(which isn't as pronounced as most of my #72's),back of tang is stamped SL6-440 s.s.-usa-3 lines, clip and coping blades are unmarked.if i find out this one wasn't made by camillus, i may just start carrying it, although this would be against my religion!!!!........ ::ds:: ..............

I'll bet these were made by Camillus ::tu:: Front tang marked STANLEY rear tang is stamped SL 10 over 440 SS over USA. Spey blade tang is plain but blade edge is a saw. Cool knife 8)

jerry, after further exam.,comparing it to a camillus of the same period, the handle pins are in the same position, the profile of all 3 blades looks identical, liners same thickness, nail nicks in the secondary blades look identical, i think maybe it is made by camillus-still wondering about the united cutlery brand, sevierville,tn.-maybe smkw had camillus make them to resell to stanley???.... ::shrug:: .......
