Eustace, bearded axes must be the preferred style there. Great and interesting old axes. ::nod::

Is that what you call that shape? These are relatively new - 50-60 year olds. Behind the topic showed a much more old battle axе with a similar shape.

Eustace, I believe that is the proper name for them. That is the name I've always heard and if you google it, it shows that kind of axe. I like them and think you have a good group. Do you still have the older axe from the other thread?

I used to have a couple axes and then I went to this sale recently where these were $5 each. Now I have the beginnings of a collection.

The prize may be a Plumb Anchor with a gorgeous embossed logo. I’ve been working on them and will post more pictures.

Wow. Vikingdog, that’s a gorgeous collection. The oak leaf and red devil especially.

Here’s the ones from my recent find that were waiting just heads or handles were hopeless. Soaking in vinegar. This includes a lakeside carpenter’s hatchet, a Skookum wedge, a snow and smiley, a Collins brush axe, and the plumb anchor (which I appear to have forgotten a before picture of.

Oh. And there’s one shot of the prize of the beer bottle find too.

Nice axes. Snow and Nealley is very collectible, but I like the beer bottle the best.

Thanks man. I’ve cleaned the Snow and Nealley a bit with steal wool. Here’s the latest.

At least far as collecting goes my interest has turned to axes over knives. Basically my sole interest is the Jersey pattern I am nearing about 120 pieces in the collection thus far. I do enjoy giving old battered ones a facelift almost as much as I do finding very clean all original examples.

I live in MD and I find more Jersey's than all other styles put together. I've taken pics of ones that I passed because they were beat to death, and had people give me heck. In some parts of the country guys have never seen one. I sent one to London as a surprise, got his address from a friend, and the young guy bout had a stroke. Wanted to pay me back. I paid less than a bottle of beer for it. A guy bid $5 on an old Craftsman tool box with a pile of odds and ends in it. I offered him $2 for the ax, all he wanted was the tool box. I do prefer doubles, especially Cruisers. That is a pile of nice ones you have there. Most of my Jersey's are no name, but I do have a couple Plumbs and a Dunlap that I can think of.
