All About Pocket Knives

Should I dispute the sale then? Is the added shield a big deal if I ever wanted to sell it?
Now that I know I would have to list it as such. I paid a little over $60 for it, its not alot
of money really (less than 1/2 a tank in my truck) but I don't like getting ripped off either.
The seller had quite a detailed description but maybe he had no idea. What to do......?


-----After a little more help from MillerBro's it looks like I paid about $25 too much for this
item, give or take. Since I like it and there is always a cost associated with learning new
things, I decided to book it in at $40 and write the other $25 off as 'Training expense'.

MB is the shield the only thing you see that is wrong on that knife? If so, what would the correct shield for that knife be ?

Most of these with this style jigging did not even have a shield.

If it did it would have one stamped U.S.A. (for U.S. Army), or M.D. U.S.N., etc.

This is one of Imperial's official Scout knives. Levine's Guide to Knives and Their Values, 2nd Ed. lists it as a "Whittler", BSA #1047 and shows that Camillus and Schrade also made knives to this pattern. It is not a true whittler as it doesn't have a split backspring. The knife is worn and the handle shows a lot of shrinkage and fading, but the construction is superior to any other Imperial in my small collection. The saber clip blade with a long pull and swedge give the knife some class. The whole thing is of heavy, solid construction, and the blades are still tight with good snap. I get the idea that being in direct competition with Schrade and Camillus for the Scout market brought out the best in Imperial (guessing this knife is from before the Imperial - Schrade merger).

I appreciate the info info. on the Remington. Also, the only stamps on it are the Remington logo stamps on the master blade & the punch. What would you guess the value to be ? I am going to keep it regardless.

I was thinking of this thread and all you Scout collectors when I was at the OKCA show last weekend. Ed Holbrook had his display out along the back wall in one corner of the huge room the show was in, (over 400 tables, so it was a big room).
His display was about 8’ high (on tables) and 30’ long.

I took some pics, but don’t know how they turned out yet.
If they are good, I will share them when I get a chance to download them.

If you are a Scout collector, Ed’s display was worth the price of admission ($6) and worthy of at least a ½ days time to study all his knives, (well, the ones he had there).
His wife is a very nice lady and very knowledgeable of Scout knives.

I wish y’all could have been there!

Im a bit confused on the pattern for these knives, ive been told that mine is a electricians model or might of been engineers but there doesnt seem a difference in tools other than possibly the flat driver is longer ?

You can call it scout knife, utility knife, camping knife or engineers knife, I would like to call it mine.

Here's my one and only scout/utility/camping/engineers knife.

If you can only have one, that is a good one to have. Beautiful bone handles.

But that knife sure does look lonesome..............

Here is a Schrade Cut Co I got at the OKCA show last weekend.
The cap-lifter/screwdriver is tang stamped as well.

Phil said it was an unofficial Scout knife.
Does anyone know anything else about it?

Hey Dale, nice one. Found it in Sargent's, they show it as model S9463. I think, 9=4-blades, 46=pattern# and 3= bone stag handles. I think the S prefix, designates it as an offical Scout knife. 1903-1948. I'm not the expert some here are, but hope this helps.

Those are some nice looking Schrade's Dale and Bubba.....

I've neglected my scout collecting for a while...fixing to change that, I hope.
A few of my latest find's...Buster Brown, Bridge Cutlery and Boker USA.
I think the Brown and Bridge are contract knives by Camillus and probably pre WWll.
The Boker...I'm thinking 1950's to 60's...am I on the right track....

WelderBob I can't offer any more information on the Boker than you already have but I can brag on those great looking scout knives of yours just a little. If you are going to get back into scouts you are doing it right IMO. Very nice group you have gathered together.
