Ozzie, nice one! What's the serial number on that one? It's likely quite low since they only made it in carbon steel for a couple of years. The number should be inside the liner.

Here's one I found at an antique mall over the weekend. It's a Schrade + SP2. There is a little wear on the handle, but it appears to be unsharpened. That won't last, because I plan to put an edge on it and carry it for a while. It's really a nice little knife.

Teardrops were popular for quite a while pre WWII, then fell out of favor. They may have been a victim of cost cutting by the factories, because they use wide pieces of bone and metals. Queen/Schatt are the only ones I know of produced in modern times.
The old Schrade Cuts, this version and the EOs, are particularly beautiful. This recent acquisition from a friend in Texas, is a little more worn than I'd hoped, but still looks good. A full one will have more of a leaf shape to the blade, maybe 5% more. Nice bone though.

What kind of bait are you using Upnorth to catch all these nice knives? Yet another beauty. I love the tear drop and swell end jack patterns. Your used knives look better than my new ones.

Having saved a little money from my recent trip, I nabbed this small collection upon my return. The seller scouts them up for me, and hit the jackpot with these!!
I don't recall seeing this Craftsman etch before.
That evil scratch is on my scanner, but the "rub" is on the blades.

Charlie, you nab collections like I grab a roll of paper towels off a Walmart shelf!

Here is a new arrival to my Schrade USA corral. Knife was pretty nasty but new & unused. Complete packaging came with it.
As pics show, I'm not through with the finer details of refurbishing
but after an hour & a half I figured it was time for a break.
Grand Dad's Old Timer II, Limited Edition. Serial number is 5 digits
so I guess the exact meaning of the term 'Limited' is open to interpretation. This one is #04931 on the knife, papers and white liner. Shield is dated either 75 or 76, hopefully someone with better eyes than me can see it in the shield pic.
Outer white liner slides over two piece black cardboard box which holds a simulated woodgrain display bottom with a hard plastic top.

Knife is 34 pattern stockman with black sawcut delrin handles, brass bolsters, liners, and shield. Backsprings & liners are milled.
Main tang stamp is Schrade over G.D.O.T. over U.S.A.
Back tang primary clip is LTD.
Secondaries each have G.D.O.T. on nail nick side tang.
Primary mark side blade etch Grand Dad's Old Timer over
Limited Edition is full and dark on blade, doesn't show well in pic.
Again, these aren't the final pics. Just the end of phase 1 cleanup.

Very nice knives upnorth. I think your Craftsman etched knife is the only Craftsman knife I've ever seen that had the real maker's tang stamp mark on the blade. All the others I've seen were marked as Sears or Craftsman on the tang. One question if you don't mind. Which tang stamp is the oldest on your three knives pictured?

Does anyone have a picture they could post or know of a place on the web where I could find a picture listing the Schrade Cutlery stamps and the years each stamp was used for? I know that Schrade owned and made Ulster knives so would those stamps be included with the Schrade Cutlery stamps? I don't know a lot about Schrade knives I'm sorry to say.

Aimus, my guess is the U.S.A. stamps are the later ones.
Someone will hopefully come along with a location for the list of stamps; it's around here somewhere!!

Clicking on the shield pic and then hitting the zoom over the '75'
sure did help with my guesstimate. That zoom is a nice feature
but it sure shows up any wax deposit or remaing gunk 10X
better than it can be seen with the naked eye.
Only reason I suspected those two lil bumps might be a split date
code was from having some of the dated shield 1983 Heritages.
Oh well, back to work with a toothbrush and some toothpicks,
gots to do this one right or George Schrade might haunt me !

Wosey, there were four knives in that set, put out to commem. the 70th Anniversary of Schrade: A 4" stockman (8OT) and a barlow in 1974, and a medium stockman (34OT, your example) and a sharpfinger in 1975. They were "limited" to about 10,000 pieces each, give or take a couple thousand. Hey, they sold a LOT of knives back then!

Aimus, here are some tang dates, keep in mind that sometimes they did overlap some. I'm not certain of the USA on the Waldens, but I think Charlie's right about it being later.

Thanks Eric for filling in some of the GDOT blanks.
Learning the history is as much fun to me as finding the knives.
A Set of 4 eh? I'll have to think about it before I jump in and try to complete the set. The way the Forestry folks tell it now, I guess I have the whole GDOT set 25% contained.
Here the finished pics after a little more detailing.
Blade etch even showed up today.

Thank you very much ea42 for the Schrade tang stamp information, I appreciate it very much. I may have to learn more about the Scrade knives since I'm thinking of trying to pick some up while they are still around to be found. Nice knife woseyjales.
