Very good Jerry! My brother and sister-in-law have the judge and they really like it!

Here's a couple of more. First a 1948 mint Ithaca 37 16 gauge with factory imp cyl barrel that I had to clean cosmoline out of. How many 36 year olds can say they put every mark on a 1948 gun! I'm blessed to own it.

Second is a 1962 Marlin 336 SC (with one scratch on the barrel and no marks on the loading gate when I bought it) in .35 Remington. I love this rifle

JEARL, that .25 is a beauty! Lots of "experts" bash the .25 for defense, but it is a whole lot better in your pocket than the bulkier gun left at home in the drawer.

Jerry, those are cool guns, and I hope you report back after a range session. I don't get any gun magazines anymore, and I am sure there have been tests printed, on the defensive buck loads? They say most gunfights are inside of 7yrds, so it should be wicked at those ranges.

Thanks Bret. Will report back. I bought every .410 Defense round in town. 40 of the Winchester PDX1 DEFENDER 410 and 40 Triple Ought Buck Shot. So I will try a few of each until I know for sure I can find more. Got lots of .45 Long Colt and .45 ACP to play with though. Horandy makes a .410 pistol round that looks pretty damn devastating. 41. rifled slug followed by two .31 balls.

Hey Bret, I know the experts dont like them for defense but I wouldnt want to be shot with one. LOL I got a good deal on it and was thinking on using it for a back up to the HK.

Just traded some ammo for this old WW2 era revolver. Made in 1943, it's an Enfield Number 2 Mk 1*.
.38 S&W caliber. Looks all original to me.

Now that's just as cool as all get out!

Thanks Guys. When I first took the grips off to clean it, I saw a wad of coins wrapped up in the grips.
Thought I had a stack of old silver!
But it turned out to be 1980s era quarters. But they were worth $3.25! Guess someone felt this old beast wasn't heavy enough...

Got to fire it today, and it was a pleasure. Really quite manageable except for the 14 pound double action trigger pull.

That Enfield is nice.

My Dad was a gun trader when I was growing up. He dearly loved a nice Webley or Webley & Scott, made pretty much like your Enfield.

They were not pretty. They were heavy. But, one felt just like Sergeant Preston of The RCMP while holding one.

They are definitely machines. As rugged as any gun could possibly be.

They came in a variety of calibres, seems Dad a .45 Long Colt at one time. I think the standard was .45 Webley.

I have 2 Colt "Snake Series" revolvers form 60' and 70' that I really love but I have always been intrigued by the "break open" (if that is the correct term) revolver like that. Never even held one in hand.
I have room for one more revolver in the stable and would love to pick one up. I assume Colt made them also as well as many other makers.
Does this design inhibit or exacerbate cylinder timing issue inherent to wheel guns? Of course, mostly due to users slamming the cylinder shut like a knucklehead.

I posted this in the Outdoorsman thread awhile back I think, but I really like this and thought you might enjoy it in case you did not see it. Not the best pics but you get the idea.

My cartridge collection given to me by my Dad. Lots of bizarre calibers I have never heard of. The dark brass cartridges are some old large caliber rimfire, in addition to an assortment of some cool, odd stuff. 30-06 "Practice Cartridge" with a wooden projectile, old .38 round with 2 buck shot balls, a .38 in the last pic in a triangular plastic sleeve, the list goes on. That box of Winchester .22 shorts in the second pic is still full of the original ammo. Love this little collection as much as Dad did. I think he started assembling it about 50 years ago or so. Some old rounds!

zp4ja (Jerry), I'm going out on a limb here and responding to your assumption that Colt made a top break revolver and saying I don't think they did. Lots of H&Rs, S&Ws, Hopkins& Allen, Webleys, Iver Johnsons but I can't remember a Colt top break. If I'm incorrect I'm sure we'll soon know ! Treefarmer

Thanks Dimitri and Blue for the compliment. I have to inventory the cartridge collection at some point as when you start pulling them out, some rare or odd calibers, projectiles, at least for me, no expert.

Thanks TreeFarmer. Grew up on a steady diet of Colt and S&W as a kid as far as revolvers go. My father never owned a handgun other than a revolver. Just old fashioned I guess, "Don't need 16 rounds if you know how to shoot" mentality, which I agree with whole heartedly, even though I like my slide guns and own a few.

I have a list of guns he owned over his lifetime, every gun, not a boatload but some cool stuff. For example, he had a Winchester Model 88 in .308 Lever Action that he sold off at some point. Would love to have that gun just since it was my Dad's and old.

Jerry, know what you mean about the Winchester Model 88 ("The levergun that thinks its a bolt action"). I've owned several (M88 in .284 WIN in the picture). My hands down favorite hunting rifle of all time is my M88 in .308 WIN - took two of my biggest deer with it on the same morning in 2008 - just fantastic rifles. Luckily there are frequent enough M88's out there for sale that owning one in .308 WIN is not anymore expensive than buying a current name brand bolt action. OH

Old Hunter, Tell me about the sling you have on your 88! Is it an optical illusion or is it as thick as it appears? I'm not familiar with that type of slide or adjusting configuration. Never owned an 88 but had a model 100 in .243 back in the 60's. Went from one extreme to the other back then by trading the 100 for a Ruger .44 carbine, which is also long gone . When I got the 100, seems like there were 2 checkering patterns available, the basket weave like yours and just plain checkering. Treefarmer

Treefarmer, the sling is a 1” wide, Chicago Screw model, made by Montana Slings. They are terrific slings, the leather is stout (won’t ever break on you) and they have no metal parts to rattle or mar your rifle finish. I have several of them, all my pre-64 Model 70’s and my favorite (M88) wear them. Easy to silently adjust the knot plus they look good on the old classic rifles. If you have the older pre-64 or the early post-64 guns (and some other brands) that had fixed sling swivels you want the Chicago Screw version. For later guns that have the QD studs you want the version with the Uncle Mikes QD swivel sewn into the sling. http://www.montanagunslings.com/

Colonel Wade, thanks buddy, I love that rifle – slick as greased lightning! Of course the slickness is very much magazine dependent. When I bought my first M88 (about 20 years ago) I bought two NIB Winchester magazines. This rifle benefited greatly from one of my new magazines – much smoother feeding once I swapped it out.

Jerry, I know what you mean about it not being your Dad’s rifle. However, think about this – nothing you can do about that now, but if you do buy one similar to his, then you will be making hunting lore with that rifle to pass down to a son, grandson, nephew – niece, or special person – think of what that rifle will mean to THEM one day because it was YOURS!

Very well said OH! Do have a few revolvers and rifles that were my Dad's so pretty happy with that! I also have a few pistols and rifles I have picked up along the way myself. My sons drool when they come over (not that I have the nicest collection) and try to talk me out of giving some up before my time expires, not happening!
Dare I say this on this thread but I have all I need at this point for any defensive or hunting task that I might undertake. Might make an exception if I run across a nice break open revolver like Blue posted earlier.

Here are the 2 revolvers I have that were my Dad's.

Top gun in the pic is the six inch Colt .357 Python, circa 1975', we used at the range, with .38 loads. Dad had the trigger worked for target shooting. Scary short pull. Probably 3 pounds or less, if I recall correctly. Think about it going off and it does. We are talking thousands of rounds and an equal quanitity of memories.
Bottom gun is the Colt .38 DiamondBack with 4 inch barrel, circa 1968'. Nice weight and balance on this gun.
