That is how a knife should look. Simple and functional. I like it.

Re: Vintage Barehead Jacks
Thanks for all your comments, so nice to read sentiments that match mine. A knife like this embodies everything I like about the hobby. Finely crafted by one of the great names in the business, simple, yet ruggedly handsome. The "Miller look" is an added facet, I like screws!. I hope someone still treasures it in another 100 years.

Here is a unique Shapleigh jack I posted in the Shapleigh Hardware thread but I also believe it belongs in this thread too. I believe it was made by Schrade. It is 3 & 1/2 inches.

That old Jack has it all. Can opener and presto lite key! And the simple elegance they epitomize.

Lloyd, that is a really nice, unique knife. I missed your original post in the Shapleigh forum and went back and looked at it. I am a Shapleigh fan, hadn't seen one of those before,

Very nice pair, Joe. I am curious about what type of wood? I don't really notice any reddish tones in the picture, but is it Cocobola?

Re: Vintage Barehead Jacks

... That Robeson bone is really nice with that old jigging - reminds me of peach seed jigging from Schrade. Based on the estimated date range of the tang stamp from the understanding of Tom Kalcevic and Charlie Noyes it is indeed an oldie - 1896-1899...

Thank you, Lee. They're a testament to the quality of work put into the knives of yesterday. Carried, used, and abused for decades, and still work just as good as the day they were made!
