Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
Klein Tools 44056.
Compared to the US, Japan, and even Sheffield-made ones, it falls kind of short. It's made in Vietnam, apparently using parts from China and Taiwan. Given the handle is identical to the Taiwan-made KTO-series, and prototypes were marked AUS-8, I honestly wish they had made it in Taiwan, even if it was $50-60.
First of all, Klein designed it to lock shut, meaning that oversize thumb slot is kind of useless. I do see their point, as Benchmades have opened on me accidentally when dropped.
The clip is terrible, and bends easily.
But, it fulfills the job of a hawkbill with a southpaw-friendly lock that weighs almost nothing that I can easily carry. The 44005 is larger, and supposedly US-made (though I believe made in Japan, with installation of the clip in the US as well as final finishing).
The only decent lightweight Kleins are the ones Moki makes in Japan. I have treated mine pretty rough, and they have no problem standing up to real use.
That being said, it's 100 times better than the Bugout clones Walmart sells. Despite the "D2" the edge retention is terrible. The 9Cr on these holds an edge great.

Case 62021/2, Camillus 40, Schrade 175, Buck503c, Primble 4106, and sometimes a Gerber 08709. It just depends on what I'm doing at the time. I used to carry a Buck 301 and it was one heck of a knife. I also used to carry Boker 85 too. It's funny how we change up on our edc's

The Wharncliff is the Waterville Cutlery with Ivory covers. The old Northfield is the Tuxedo with bone covers.Lansky1 wrote: ↑Wed May 28, 2025 2:29 pmWow - is that an OG Northfield wharncliffe ? Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
Just arrived yesterday, and gets a pocket immediately. Many thanks to K.O.F.-- service is first rate, and the knives? Just lovely hand work on these traditional patterns. Nice 3mm, thick blade. Already had occasion to do some cutting with it this am, and it cuts beautifully.
