Re: Now we have a Colonial thread,Show'em
My 13 y/o son picked this all by himself at the Dalton show. I was proud that
my non-knifer son found a good American knife he likes
Shell-handled, 3 1/2 inch closed. Used but not abused.
COLONIAL
PROV.U.S.A. on blade.
Both spoon and fork are marked on back of tangs
STAINLESS
COLONIAL
PROV.U.S.A.
Told the boy that we have a Colonial expert here, and I would ask him about the knife.
What say you Mr. P?

Nice bunch guys!!
Mickey, where the hell did you find this treasure!!
These were some of the earliest Colonial's, before they even had Colonial tang stamps!!
The Celluloid handles are incredible and perfectly preserved!!
That in itself is a very delicate and difficult thing to achieve...
Celluloid must be kept at one constant temperature and enviorment! Where ever this beautiful # 409 Fish knife came from, it was clearly taken very good care of....
I would make you an offer if I had the cash...this baby was made anywhere from 1925-1929, before Colonial was even incorporated!! Before grandpa could afford bolster tools!!
I would estimate the value of this gem at $ 120.00 to $ 150.00 all day long to the serious Colonial collector!! The clear hot die stamp is a pure sign of it's age; before colored foil was even developed!! My God...don't EVER part with this beauty, even if I beg you!!!
Absolutely incredible my friend!!!

Scott's got a lovely little # 430 Old Cutler, customized by RAP Cutler with India Stag handles..very rare Scott, don't take less the a thousand dollars for it!! LOL...
And greeting Mr. royal....this is our old # 2644 Camper and was made for many years...the jigging on the plastic molding injection and rolled on brown die tells the age of this baby..I'm thinking early 60's and in the shape it's in, maybe worth 20-30 bucks!!
Nice find and it is an absolute perfect camp knife for your son! Teach him how to use it properly; always cut away from the body, not towards....
Nice find sir..

Thanks Mr P!
Here's another Colonial I received a few weeks back, finally took time for some pictures today.
Shell-handled 2-3/4 inches closed. This little cutie has found a permanent place in my EDC rotation

Re: Now we have a Colonial thread,Show'em
thanks for the info Bob
that knife was a throw in with these knives that I really wanted, got all 3 from ebay by hitting the button at the last second and beating out 2 big time buyers
i got all three for much less than you estimate the fish knife, which I really like, less than 20 a knife, I guess I will not be fishing with it

Royal has himself a nice # B-44, two blade shell jack....
The true test for these shell knives was the main "Skeleton" construction!!
This is why grandpa Fred and many other knife people at one time or another built knives
from the ground up. When the tubular rivet main skeleton construction was the foundation of a pocket knife, the exterior, handle, cover, possibility's were endless; history has taught us this fact. In fact some of the earliest Colonials had solid pin construction but with a hole in the assembly pins to put delicate materials like MOP on to skeleton's and then gently peened over with brass pins on a work bench, by hand...these were the True Cutler's of the past.
Here are some from my collection that verify this production method...
Bobby P. CKCo...

See...no center rivet!! The skeleton is under the handle!!

Mickey...where do I begin with you pal....I don't even want to know what you paid for these three knives because I'll cry!!
Do you realize what you won???
Anything stamped Shrade/Walden is very valuable!!
This old brown jigged bone three blade jack is a classic!! (I might still have one.)..
It has a tappered center brass scale that allows a double spring to support one thick master blade at one end, then tapper's off to support two thinner blades at the other end!
The icing on the cake is an old black jigged bone Camillus three blade jack; master blade, spey blade, and a hand worked "Rifle Twist" belt punch..WOW!!!
You are a lucky man my friend.....
Nice job!!!

Re: Now we have a Colonial thread,Show'em
thanks Bob, that Walden is delrin
that is why I am having a hard time dating it
I think it was made in the Ellenvill plant after 1958 but it is a knice knife
the Camillius is in great shape and has the short line dating it 1946-1950
I don't know if the rifled awl makes it rarer or if they made the 64 modle with other blades and smooth awl there
bet they made that model for other companies also

Nice research mickey, that Delrin handle sure fooled me but you have the advantage I don't have; a picture paints a thousand words but with pocket knives..you have to have it in your hands to know for sure!! Nice job mickey!!
Thanks for the compliments Scott, that first case is loaded with goodies!!!
The large stockman's and Barlows will fill two more cases!!
I only have a six foot table front to work with but it will be filled with toys!!
Antique skeleton's will be show priced at 2 for a buck! My books will also be show priced at $ 19.99!! I will also bringing tons of parts; large and medium stockman blades, stainless and 1095 High Carbon steel, springs...
I also have two or three POUNDS of medium stockman NS bolster's!
I am also going to make up little bags of assorted rivets! Pin on brass, NS, tubular, center nails, brass, NS, and steel...enough rivets to repair any possible pocket knife!!!
$ 5.00 for a bag of 100 different rivets!! You know now Scott, rivets!! haha..private joke..
That pretty etched dye bone Barlow is ONE OF A KIND!!! Made at Heritage but with Colonial Old Cutler parts..Extremely RARE....
Bobby P. CKCo..RAP, and Heritage ....

How do ya like this Colonial Forest Master with brown scales and 2 blades (usually it's an awl instead of the smaller pen blade)......can't say as I've ever seen one like it!

Hey Scott, wicked nice old FM.!!
Brown jigged plastic, very rare, and I have some old FM or Scout knives with the same identical blade configuration! The bolster's on yours look a bit like Iron?? Put a magnet to them for me...if they stick, it's iron, NS bolster's will NOT stick because NS consists of Nickle and a small % of Silver...no steel.
Strangly enough, mine has no shield and has solid pin and NS bolster's..Yours is also solid pin construction I think BUT it could be a shell knife; I can't tell from here.
By having it in hand you can tell better than me...
Nice find bro!!
Here's a shot of mine..
