Not too recently, I obtained this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It is a CAMILLUS 60, three blades (one has a file), 3 1/8" closed, two tang stamps, milled liners, fancy springs, tip bolsters, "split spring" (I Know That It's NOT A TRUE SPLIT SPRING), whittler, pattern or style of pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp (short line) says, "CAMILLUS (over) NEW YORK (over) USA" The main blade back tang stamp says, "60", the pattern number. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. I took some pictures and here it is.
Caption(s), if any, are on the BOTTOM of the corresponding picture(s).

***** NOTE ***** NOTE ***** NOTE ***** NOTE *****
According to the 1946 CAMILLUS catalog, the CAMILLUS "60" is called a "DE LUXE SENATOR PEN KNIFE."
With some MINOR additional research, it appears that the "60", at some point, became the more familiar
"stockman" pattern, was called "Old Smoothie " and again at some point, evolved into the "61" I could NOT
find a "60" listed after 1978. The pattern number, NOT the pocket knife itself. There is ROOM FOR ERROR
in my findings, so.....
No room for error in saying that is an awesome, wonderful, beautiful old Camillus Skip.

That’s a nice old whittler Skip. I don’t think I have a Camillus whittler, which is a shame. I’ll have to see if I can find a good’un.
Here’s more from my pile.
Ken
Ken , your “ pile “ is amazing! Thanks for sharing
And What ,no Camillus Whittler ! We might have to help you fix that

JP, thanks for the great examples showing what a real Camillus whittler looks like. (As opposed to those Camillus 72 pseudo-“whittlers”.)

You and Skip have set the bar.

Coast Cutlery Co Portland OR 3 spring whittler, tang stamped all 3 blades. Can't find much on them other than they started making fish knives in the 1930's and are still in business. This whittler looks Queen made to me.

Great looking knife, John. My info says that Coast knives were made by Western States, Schrade, and Camillus. It said most of the Coast marked knives were made in the 30's and 40's.

"Nice" is an understatement, sir!
I love those handles. I don't think that I have ever seen any quite like them. I am presuming that they are celluloid? They are beautiful, with no visible shrinkage from the pictures. That is a very beautiful piece of cutlery history!

This morning, my trip to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my general, CAMILLUS, pocket knife accumulation. It is a CAMILLUS "60", three blades (one has a file), 3 1/8" closed, two tang stamps, milled liners, fancy springs, tip bolsters, "split spring", "whittler", pattern or style of pocket knife. YES, I KNOW IT IS NOT A TRUE SPLIT SPRING pocket knife! The main blade front tang stamp (short line) says, "CAMILLUS (over) NEW YORK (over) USA" The main blade back tang stamp says, "60" The main blade does have a SOFT half stop. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD opening snap. The main blade does have a VERY GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade does have a SOFT half stop. The secondary blade does NOT have an opening snap. The secondary blade does have a GOOD closing snap. The third blade does have a SOFT half stop. The third blade does have a GOOD opening snap. The third blade does have a GOOD closing snap. Overall, this pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off.
I took some pictures and here it is.
