That’s a fine looking Desert Eagle Ken. Congratulations!

I went to the gun and knife show yesterday. I didn’t bring home any knives, as they were all evidently made of gold or other precious metals.

But, I did get a rather good deal on this 1977 Marlin 336 Texan 30-30. I almost skipped down the aisle, lol.

Congratulations on your Marlin. I’ve owned two Texans in the past. Fine carbines.

Thanks guys. All of my others are pistol grip stocks, except for the 1894s. I’m anxious to get some trigger time with this one.

Hard to go go wrong with a good ole 30-30.

Good to read, thanks! The ban was a bunch of B.S. (get it?) in my opinion. 😉 BTW- I don't think the article picture of the b.s. is accurate.

That's awesome, Ken. 😎👍 My favorite movie quote of a Desert Eagle .50 is from Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Worth a watch. 😉

Thanks Ken. Yes, the old thuty thuty is very underrated in today’s world. It amazes me at the new whiz bang rounds that come out every year that can’t ballisticly hold a candle to the old 30-30, yet they’re deemed the latest and greatest for all manner of critters, but the 30-30 is weak and no good past 50 yards.

You don’t reckon advertising dollars have something to do with all those articles do you? Lol

Thank you sir! I have two straight stocked 1894s (357 and 44 mag), but this is the first 336 Texan I’ve seen in the flesh. I’m thinking either a good old Redfield steel receiver sight or an old Redfield 2x7 wide view scope ought to be just about right on it.

Btw, I know you’re a fan of the Savage 99, there were a few there this past weekend, more than I’ve seen in a long time. I handled a Savage 303 and a 300 Savage. The 300 tempted me sorely. But I really don’t know anything about the rifles, what to look for etc… I need to read up on them. I think one needs to come live at my house.

Colonel not to sway you but I have a era correct Redfield widefield that I'm going to put on my 1956 Savage 99
OR a Lyman All American both in straight 4X
I'm leaning to the Redfield ::nod::
I had a Marlin 336C in a 30-30 when I inherited the 99,what I like about the .300 savage it is quite close to the .308

I think that 99 is going to like either one of those scopes GD!

I've got a pre-war R in 300 Sav with the Lyman Alaskan on it with Stith mounts. I've posted it before but if I can find a pic it'll be attached.

Nice! Those old Redfield scopes are cool. Mine are both 2x7. A fixed 4 would be just about perfect.

Col Wade I'd suggest a nice little 3 x 9 so all your options are available.

Perhaps you are aware of the abundant articles, YouTube presentations, etc. now explaining why the old controversy of 9mm. vs .45
has evidently been resolved by the FBI. The newer 9mm. rounds are superior in every performance measurement. But keep in mind that these results only apply to specific 9mm. ammunition, e.g. Hornady Critical Defense.

I tried the Hornady CD's when I bought my Ruger LC9s. They absolutely would not feed !
The 'rubber' tip would stick to the feed ramp. Switched to Federal Premium and problem solved.
So I also fed Fed's to the Ruger SR40. Holes are punched in paper reliably.
Now, if only the goober behind the trigger could aim as reliably . . . .
::suspense::
YMMV

If I were going to use the Hornady offerings it would be the Critical Duty as they’re usually a heavier, better imo bullet that the defense. Some informal testing done by a buddy of mine never did get the defense to perform worth a dime.

But I do have had issues with them. In my 1911 they feed fine, for a while. Carry them a bit and let the tip gather some dirt and then they start hanging up on the feed ramp. I don’t trust them in a semi auto.

I appreciate it, but I just happened to stumbled upon this old steel Redfield 70 receiver sight on ebay and snagged it for a good deal today. I think I’m going to install this and put in a twilight aperture that I have on hand.

The longest shot I’ve ever taken in a deer here is 40 something yards. Lol.

I hear ya Colonel ::handshake::
I think this year was the furthest shot on a deer I’ve had in a while at 90yards only because it was on the edge of a clear cut.
