That little woodsman is great the hat and nose are perfect for him. The little knives have been a learning curve. I scroll say and trim by hand a then sand to fit parts but break 2 out of 3 back springs. The Mini Trapper patterns were traced off a disassembled knife I had with a broken blade so it went easier.

Had to give the hat some color. Oiled the rest to show off the shadows.

Looks good! That little bit of color really helps define a carving. Like the set up there to with him looking around the tree.

there are some truly amazing wood carvers and sculptors out there, stone carvers too, we have this store here in town where I purchased some wine stoppers and gifted them to my father that were carved by a somewhat well-known artist, they were all Cowboys ~ you might of heard of him, he is a caricature carver by the name of Chris Hammack ~ https://www.chrishammackart.com/ ~ kind a fond of chainsaw carved bears myself and the cartoonist style carvings shown on this page, Doug Linker is a joy to watch on YouTube he is talented ~ I read this book called a parable for today where the main character was a fellow by the name of Joshua and in the story he had carved two life size statues one of Moses and one of Peter for a local synagogue, anyways this is why I thought about it ~ it was called "Joshua a Parable for Today" Joseph Girzone wrote it ~ a lot a talented people out there ~

Yesterday afternoon, my trip to the post office produced this item. It was completely unexpected, but VERY much appreciated. It is a hand carved and decorated, CAMILLUS, Jack Of Hearts, pocket knife. ::tu:: ::tu::
It measures 3 1/8" closed. The main blade front tang "stamp" (double line) says, "CAMILLUS (over) New York (over) U.S.A." The main blade back tang "stamp" has Coley's initials and the year. The blade has a good half stop, along with a good opening and closing snap. It will make a good filler until I obtain a CAMILLUS tang stamped, Jack Of Hearts, pocket knife.
***** A VERY special THANK YOU goes out to Coley (C-WADE7) for this thoughtful and most generous gift.::handshake:: *****

Had a piece of scrap wood I was going to throw away. Decided to see if I could get something out of it. So it's still a work in progress. Two turtles on a log. Going to add paint and a little bit of wood burning to finish it.

Gnome with a football helmet carved with my seahorse whittler. Detroit Lions play today. And while I'm not a big sports fan I will watch and see if they can make it to the super bowl. If they do I think I'll paint the helmet blue and add the roman super bowl numbers to the front of the base and probably make a little football to go with it.

I like to try and carve with a chainsaw. Thought I'd share a few pictures of some of my first bears. Still trying to figure out the best way to carve them.

Looks way better than my first attempt Doug! Do you use a standard bar or did you buy a carving bar(nickel or dime bar)? Keep it up and you will have a good side business soon.

Thanks guys. I use just the standard bar. I have a couple saw that I use to cut firewood to heat my home. A small Stihl ms 170 is what I use mostly.

Used my Bark River Knives to whittle out a hobo fishing reel. Made it out of a stick of cherry. I've never made one before. Some stain and poly then I'll put some line on and see how it works and what changes might have to be made.
